Even though I don't like the Dark Shadows revival from 1991 because Ben Cross, who plays Barnabas, is repulsive, I'd love to see inside of that house. Maybe when the DS Festival is in California again, we can visit it.

You're probably right, Sam. I do a lot of preparation for Halloween because it's my favorite holiday, but afterwards, I'm burnt out.

I enjoyed this year's trip, the haunted hotel, the two lighthouses we visited and the other haunted places, but because we didn't go to the Dark Shadows Festival first, it was somehow different, even though we watched Dark Shadows DVDs. Of the two lighthouses, the St. Augustine Lighthouse has the most ghost stories, but I liked the lighthouse at St. Simons the best, even though it has just one ghost.
All we know about next year's trip is that the DS Festival is going to be held at Lyndhurst and it's usually in July or August. I like the Lyndhurst events a lot better than when it's in New Jersey, New York City or California.

Facebook is causing a lot of problems. This wasn't the first Facebook murder and all those teenagers that committed suicide were being harassed on Facebook.

Funeral homes aren't exactly what you would call secure. Visitors can wander around and whose to say some teenager didn't sit down at someone's desk, pull up their email account and send it? It sounds like something a teenager would do.

I'm sure a lot of people have been killed with belladonna. I make tincture of belladonna and use it for cramps and things. You don't have to take it by mouth for it to have an effect, it can be absorbed through the skin. So if you wanted to kill someone, you could put in body lotion or leave-in hair conditioner or something else that they were going to rub on their body and not wash off. Of course, you couldn't be sure that they would die.

I think it's a good idea. I'm not any good at writing poetry, or stories, but I like to read other people's.

Remembrance Cookies
These are served on All Hallow's Eve and eaten while rembering dead loved ones and ancestors. They can also be served before and after engaging in a seance or using a Ouija board to contact the dead. Leftover cookies are left outside near the bonfire (or smaller fire if you aren't going to build a bonfire) as an offering to the dead. This can either be a very solemn, or a joyous ritual, depending on the participants.
1½ cups powdered sugar 1 cup butter (2 sticks) softened 1 egg 2 tsp. vanilla 1 tsp. almond extract 2½ cups all purpose flour 1 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. cream of tartar 1½ Tbsp. chopped rosemary
Heat oven 375 degrees. In a large bowl, beat sugar, butter, egg, vanilla, almond extract and rosemary until creamy. In a separate bowl, sift flour, baking soda and cream of tartar. Fold flour mixture into sugar mixture. Beat until dough forms and refrigerate for three hours. Divide dough into halves. Roll out one portion to 3/16 inch on a floured surface. Cut out with gingerbread men/women cutters, Halloween cookie cutters, or simply make round cookies if you like, and place on an ungreased cookie sheet. Repeat rolling and cutting with second portion. Bake for 5-7 minutes, or until lightly brown.

Everyone who's interested in herbal cures should read this. I've worked with all 5 of these herbs and in my experience, they do everything that it is claimed that they will do.

I hated the movie. Before it was made, Johnny Depp was talking about how he had always wanted to play Barnabas and Tim Burton was also a Dark Shadows fan, at least he said that he was, so how could they have done what they did to a show that has become a cult classic?
I'm looking forward to our Dark Shadows trip next month. I've never been to Jekyll Island, but I've been reading about it and we'll be staying in an old haunted hotel from the Gilded Age. I can't wait!

I agree and most of the ads were for things that I either hated or would never even think about buying. It was all a bunch of junk, just like almost everything on the Yahoo news page. I'm thrilled that I don't have to look at that junk everyday anymore.

Women are natural witches because they all have the power of intuition even if they aren't gifted in fortune telling or psychic abilities. I've always been skeptical of male witches and I wouldn't want to be in a coven where there were men because I think that they don't would hinder spell casting, not only because they lack natural abilities, but because the women couldn't really be themselves with men around. Women are just more in tune with nature and the spiritual side of things than men are.

Mabon

Does anyone here celebrate Mabon? Some friends and I have a sort of Dianic coven because it's all females, where we get together at a cabin in the woods by the river and have a feast and then sit outside around the fire, or inside by the fireplace if its cold, and tell ghost stories and talk about scary things. We also make herbal remedies, magic oils, and do spells and crafts, like wreaths and quilts and things. It's really fun and if a member of our group needs something, we're all there for each other.
