Does anyone here celebrate Mabon? Some friends and I have a sort of Dianic coven because it's all females, where we get together at a cabin in the woods by the river and have a feast and then sit outside around the fire, or inside by the fireplace if its cold, and tell ghost stories and talk about scary things. We also make herbal remedies, magic oils, and do spells and crafts, like wreaths and quilts and things. It's really fun and if a member of our group needs something, we're all there for each other.

I remember you talking about your group before Kate. I think it is awesome. Even among other witches you don't really find many groups like yours. The few covens I have known are mixed women and men, and they practice wiccan rituals mostly.
Please no one take offense - I'm not putting wiccans down, but of the ones I have had contact with, I have just not experienced any level of comradery or close knit companionship with them. Their covens are usually drama filled, and here today, gone tomorrow. I am sure though there are some out there that do work well.
When you can get a strong group together like yours Kate, you are a force to be reckoned with.

I wish that I could interest enough women where I live to form a group like Kate's, but I live in a small town in Alabama and even though a lot of women do spells when they want something, no one has ever tried to organize a coven. Like Kate, I prefer Hoodoo because in Hoodoo, there isn't all that harm none, animal loving, vegetarian nonsense that you find in Wicca. Wiccans really irritate me when they start in about three fold destiny and white magic, which was created by Gerald Gardner and has nothing to do with real witchcraft.

That does sound like fun. I have always thought of as cozy, the idea of sitting by a fire and talking or celebrating something.
