I'm not surprised that no one is sure about the dates. A lot of the people who owned those Dark Shadows sites are probably dead or in nursing homes. It's been 50 freaking years for Chris' sake! Most people on this site weren't even alive when Dark Shadows was on TV -- I wasn't. I can almost understand Lee and Julia's fascination for something from a half-century past because they actually remember it, but Catherine, Madeline and Kate weren't even born, and still they go off to celebrate Dark Shadows every year and pretend they're living in the '60s. Am I the only one who thinks this is beyond freaking WEIRD?!

I love reading about their Dark Shadows trips every year, the things that they do and how they shop for clothes from that period always makes me wish that I could go.

I would rather it be later in the summer, but the end of June is OK. We really need to find out if these are the correct dates, so that we can start making reservations and decide where we're going after the Festival.

I love reading the reports our members who go to the Dark Shadows Festivals send back every year. It's the next best thing to being there.

Well, now we know the dates for sure. It looks like there are going to be a lot more guests than usual, so there will probably be more people attending. Lee and Maddie are supposed to be making our reservations in Tarrytown and we still need to decide what we're going to do for the rest of our trip. I'd like to stay a few days at the Big Moose Lodge where Grace Brown was murdered in the mountains in upper New York on our way to Maine. We've talked about it before. There's a lodge and cabins for rent, but it's such short notice that we might have problems getting reservations.

We've made our reservations at the Doubletree, sent our payment for all of the events to the "Dark Shadows" Festival and for the Sleepy Hollow Tour. We went on the Sleepy Hollow tour in 2014 and we've been going to the cemetery every time the festival is held in Tarrytown. At our very first "Dark Shadows" Festival, we went to Sleepy Hollow. Brooke Astor, the socialite, was being buried there that day and everyone thought that we were attending the funeral because we were all wearing black. The people at the Castle at Tarrytown where we had dinner after the funeral also thought that we were part of the funeral party and the manager gave us a personal tour of the hotel.
If we go to the Adirondacks, we have to decide if we're going to stay at the Big Moose Inn, a hotel, or at the Covewood Lodge, which has cabins for rent. Two of us want to rent a cabin, 2 want to stay at the hotel and the 5th is undecided. The only 4 bedroom cabins available for the time that we'll be there that can be rented by the night are the Spruce Lodge and the Outlet. One has 3 bathrooms and the other one has only 2. The drawback to the Covewood is that there's no restaurant and we'll have to cook our own food or drive to a restaurant, but Kate's a very good cook and the rest of us also know how to cook.
Next, we have to decide where we'll be staying in Maine this year.

As I said in my email, the Covewood Lodge isn't practical because we would have to provide our own sheets, towels, dishcloths, etc. We already have a problem getting all our clothing, shoes and incidentals into our luggage, we don't have room for sheets and towels. We should go ahead and make reservations at the Big Moose Inn.

Lee and Maddie: Y'all need to be more careful and find out these kinds of things before making a suggestion. Two years ago, y'all suggested the Algonquin Inn in New Brunswick before finding out that they allowed freaking dogs and we had to find another place.

You'll love the Adirondacks. I grew up near Rochester and sometimes we would rent a cabin in the Adirondacks for our vacation. In the day time, we went hiking and canoeing on the lakes and at night we sat around the campfire, roasted hotdogs and marshmallows, and told ghost stories.

So have you made your reservations yet and decided where you're going to stay in Maine this year? We've made our reservations at the Big Moose Inn for three nights. Then, on the way to Maine, we're going to stop in Vermont because Catherine and Kate have never seen things like the haunted house and strange Bowman statue, or Emily's Bridge, so we've also made reservations for three nights at the Green Mountain Inn in Stowe, VT.

Isn't the Bowman statue a long way from Stowe?
