Isn't the Bowen statue a long way from Stowe? Cuttingsville, where the strange tomb and haunted house are located, is about 100 miles south of Stowe, so it isn't all that far and there's a lot of scenery in the Vermont mountains.

I thought it was farther because I remember a very long drive from Woodstock to Stowe. I think that we had lunch at the Green Mountain Inn, but I might be mistaken. Are you going to go to the Woodstock Green where the vampire's heart is supposed to be buried? The Green was very atmospheric when we were there, because it was close to Halloween, but there's no evidence that anything is buried there. The old house and mausoleum with Bowman's statue are worth driving a hundred miles to see.

It looks like it would be a nice place to stay. I liked Vermont a lot more than Rhode Island.

Maddie: Have you decided yet where you're going to visit in Maine this year? I tried to post this last Thursday, but after I had typed it and went to post, it disappeared. Then when I tried to login yesterday, I couldn’t login. This time, I first typed everything in Notepad, so I wouldn’t lose it again.
We’ve finalized our trip and have all of our reservations made. On Friday, June 24th, Lee, Catherine, Kate and I will be flying from down South to Westchester Airport in New York, where we’ll pick up our rental SUV. Because Julia lives in Maine and it’s hard to get anywhere from there, she has to fly into Laguardia in New York City and take a taxi or the shuttle to Tarrytown. We’re staying at the Doubletree, where the DS Festival is being held this year.
On Monday, the 27th, we’ll leave Tarrytown early for our drive to the Adirondacks and we’re going to try to leave before the traffic gets heavy. Our first stop will be South Ostelic, where Grace Brown lived and where she’s buried. It’s almost 200 miles to South Ostelic, so that’s over a 4 hour drive. After South Ostelic, we’re going to stop in Cortland to see the building where the Gillette Skirt Factory used to be and we’ll probably have lunch there. Cortland is 35 miles west of South Ostelic. From Cortland, we’ll go on to Eagle Bay, where the Big Moose Inn is located, and that’s another 125 miles, so we probably won’t get there until very late in the afternoon.
The Big Moose Inn: The rooms have neat names and we were able to reserve specific rooms. Our rooms are “Grace’s Retreat,” which has 2 beds and Catherine and Kate have that room. The others are named “Wilderness, “Moose Lake” and “Bear’s Paw”. We’ll be at the Big Moose the nights of the 27th, 28th and 29th. On June the 30th, we’ll leave Big Moose Lake for Stowe, Vermont, which is only a 4 hour drive
The Green Mountain Inn: Lee and Julia have rooms in the original inn that have either king or queen beds. Catherine, Kate and I will be staying in what is called the Goat Loft Apartment in the Mansfield Building. It’s what is called an “open plan” with a living room, kitchen, 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The kitchen will be handy because we’ll have a place to mix drinks and bring food back for breakfast, or whatever. The 4th of July is on Sunday, and we don’t want to drive on the 4th because of heavy traffic, so we’ll be at the Green Mountain Inn the nights of the 30th, July 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th. Also, the Goat Apartment has a washer & dryer, so we’ll be able to do out laundry and get our dry cleaning done before leaving for Maine. On the morning of the 5th, we’ll leave Stowe for Northeast Harbor, Maine, which is 288 miles and will take at least 8 hours because we’ll have to stop for lunch, probably in Augusta.
The Asticou Inn: This is an old resort hotel built in 1883. Northeast Harbor is about 12 miles from Bar Harbor, where we usually stay. We were allowed to pick specific rooms here also. I have a queen room on the 3rd floor of the main hotel and Catherine and Kate have a twin bed room just across the hall. Lee and Julia have a sort of suite, which has 2 bedrooms, 2 baths and a kitchenette in what is called Cranberry Lodge, an old Victorian summer cottage that’s now part of the Asticou. With a kitchen, we can make our own vodka martinis and other drinks. We’ll be at the Asticou from the night of the 5th through the 8th and we’ll be driving to Portland on the 9th and flying home on the 10th.

Your trip this year sounds so exciting! Are any of the places that you're staying haunted? I know that Grace Brown haunts Big Moose Lake, and the Green Mountain Inn has a ghost, though I don't remember the particulars. But what about the old hotel in Maine? I've never heard of the Asticou Inn, but you say that it was built in 1883. Do you have any pictures of the Big Moose Inn and the Asticou Inn?

The GOAT Loft Apartment? What kind of hotel names its suites and apartments for barnyard animals?! What are the others named? Pig? Cow? Chicken? .....

Pat and Kitty: I found some photos and I'll ask Lee to post them. I have a problem posting photos on this site.
Jason: The suites aren't all named for barnyard animals. I don't know why the one we're getting is called Goat.

The following photos are of the Green Mountain Inn, where we will be staying in Stowe, Vermont. The top photo is the exterior of the inn. The next is a photo of the lobby and the third is the dining room. I had some complaints that the photos of the Big Moose Inn were too small. These are larger and if you log in and click on them, you will be able to enlarge them.

More photos of the Green Mountain Inn: The top photo shows the living room, dining room and kitchen of the Goat Loft Apartment, where Catherine, Maddie and Kate will be staying. The middle photo shows one of the bedrooms in the apartment; the other bedroom has a king-sized bed. The bottom photo is a sample of the rooms in the main hotel where Julia and I have reserved our rooms.

I love the photos of the Green Mountain Inn and I think that I like it even more than the Big Moose Inn. The lobby with the two wing chairs by the fireplace reminds me of the Old House on Dark Shadows and the bedroom in the main inn is very elegant.
