Ann Rule was self-aggrandizing and I had my doubts about a lot of her claims. Those of you who know the Diane Downs story know she gave birth to a baby while in prison and a few years ago, Ann Rule claimed Downs told her the name of the man who fathered the child, who was adopted and is now known as Becky Babcock. When Babcock found out she was the daughter of Diane Downs, she wanted to know the identity of her father, but Rule refused to tell her. Later on, a woman who once worked at the California prison where Downs is held said Diane Downs told others Rule was lying and she never told her who the father was. I never understood why Rule claimed to know the father’s identity if she wasn’t going to reveal it. Why say anything at all? I thought she was lying and claimed she knew solely for the publicity. Some of those who attended her events say she saw serial killers behind every bush and greatly exaggerated the number of serial killers operating at any one time. I believe someone questioned her about this and she said something to the effect that it was better to be safe than sorry. I've also heard that she exaggerated her knowledge about certain cases and pretended to have inside information that she did not have, which is probably what she was doing in the Diane Downs case. I've read most of her books, but like someone else said, she rambles on with a lot of irrelevant information to fill space.

I see that in this poll, a lot more people say they're unsure how she died. In the other poll, almost everyone blamed the Kennedys. No one knows for sure what happened, but I believe the Kennedys were involved because Joe DiMaggio, who was privy to information the average person didn't have, blamed the Kennedys and he snubbed Bobby Kennedy and refused to shake hands with him at Yankee Stadium. I believe the Kennedys had something to do with her death for the same reason. It's just too much of a coincidence that Bobby Kennedy was in San Francisco at the time she died in Los Angeles, and by helicopter, it isn't that far. Although I think JFK was fairly easy-going, from all accounts, Bobby was a tough, vindictive SOB. Because he was assassinated, some people have tried to turn him into a saint, but he probably had something of an inferiority complex because he was smaller than the other Kennedy men and I don't think there was very much saintly about him.

Today is the 131st anniversary of the Borden murders. I've never been to Fall River, but if I ever go, I think I'd rather visit Maplecroft than the Lizzie Borden B&B. If Lizzie returned from the dead to haunt some place, it would be her house on "The Hill," not the place where the Bordens were killed, which she considered tacky in life and wouldn't be interested in haunting in the afterlife. I agree, if Lizzie's spirit is still around, she would be at Maplecroft. I was hoping whomever bought the house would turn it into a B&B. I have no desire to stay at the 2nd street house because it's cramped and sensationalized and I don't believe it's haunted, but I would love to spend a few days at Maplecroft.

Boy did they twist his words! The DIMocrats have always worshiped the Kennedys, but since he dared say men don't belong on women's sports teams, they've turned on him like a pack of pit bulls.

I believe the closest to me would be the event in Pensacola, but Catherine, Serena and I are planning on going to the Paranormal Expo in Little Rock and we've already made hotel reservations. I'd also like to spend a couple of days at the Bell Witch Festival.

The police are too quick to dismiss what they call “rumors.” While liberal illicit drug policies are killing 10’s of thousands, if drugs were killing these people, there would be close to an equal number of males and females, not all women.

Are there others who hate all the CSI and NCIS shows on TV now? There must be at least a half-dozen CSI spinoffs and there are 3 or 4 NCIS shows on ION, ION Mystery, Charge and and other stations. I didn't like the original CSI and NCIS (after the first woman agent was killed off) and I absolutely despise all the others. Two other shows I can't that are shown too much are Bones and Monk. I've always hated those shows. CSI, NCIS and Bones are both totally unrealistic and I hate Monk with a passion, one reason being that I cannot abide people with ridiculous phobias like a fear of germs, and another that I hate the actor who plays the part. There's just something about him as a person that rubs me the wrong way.

The Exorcist was based on the book by Peter Blatty and writers in the past did a great deal of research before writing a book, or anything else, because they wanted their work to be as authentic as possible. I’m sure he read numerous accounts of exorcisms, and anyone researching exorcism in England would have come across this case. This is the reason I prefer older books to those published today. Younger writers don't seem to think research is necessary. They just sit down and write some fantasy nonsense and then wonder why no one wants to read it. I blame sites like Reddit, where there are several "writing" subs that encourage people to "just write" without bothering to learn basic grammar and composition or how to conduct research.

I believe this is the William Winston House, 15 N. Commons Street, E., Tuscumbia, Alabama. The house, which was completed in 1833, is now a part of the campus of Deshler High School, where it is sandwiched between two ugly modern-day school buildings. On November 22, 1874, during a severe thunderstorm, a tornado touched down and caused extensive damage to the house, severely injuring Julia Winston, who died a short time later. Her spirit has haunted the house ever since.
What is now Tuscumbia, was incorporated in 1820 as Ococoposa, an Indian word meaning “dry watermelon.” In 1821, the town changed its name to Big Spring, and in 1822, it changed it’s name again, this time to Tuscumbia, in honor of a Chickasaw Indian chief. (Although he’s often referred to as a chief, Tuscumbia was actually the tribe’s rainmaker.)

I’m thinking of ordering a canvas print of this painting called “Procession in the Fog” by the German artist Ernst Ferdinand Oehme, whom I had never heard of. He painted it in 1828. I’m not sure what it’s supposed to be. In some ways it looks like a funeral procession, but if it is, why does everyone appear to be wearing long, hooded black robes? Any ideas? I’m asking because it costs more than $300 plus I’ll have to pay another couple of hundred (at least) to have it framed. I want to be sure it’s something I will enjoy looking at for years to come. I’ve ordered other paintings, sight unseen, except online, and they looked different after I got them and I ended up hanging them in an extra bedroom or some other place where they are seldom seen.

For a couple of years, this story was all over the internet, with people resorting to personal attacks on Facebook, Reddit and other sites that allowed comments, if anyone dared question the claims of these women Catherine dubbed the “sacred cows,” but now you never see anything about them anymore? Does anyone know what they’re doing now that people have lost interest and they’re no longer the center of attention?

So they believed the actual body of the dead person got out of the grave to drink the blood of the living. In the stories about the New England vampires, I got the impression that people thought it was the spirit, not the actual corpse, that visited and drained the life of the living. The people of New England didn't believe the dead drank the blood of the living. They believed the dead person was draining the life's essence, causing the living person to become weaker, gradually wasting away, like someone with consumption. I don't think the "undead" in New England were ever referred to as vampires.

I saw on the news tonight where some lowlife executed in Florida this evening ordered a bacon cheeseburger without the bun as one of the items he chose for his last meal. He also ordered onion rings, a vanilla milkshake, cherry ice cream, strawberries and coffee. Is a cheeseburger a “cheeseburger” without the bun?

I read somewhere several years ago that the spirits known as “Radiant Boys” were the ghosts of young boys who were raped and murdered. Has anyone else heard this, or is it just some modern-day interpretation? Also does anyone know the other locations haunted by Radiant Boys?

I know everyone makes fun of old-fashioned mediums and they did put on a show for their audience, but at least their shows were interesting with things like musical instruments appearing. Today's ghost hunters post millions of photos and videos of orbs, which are nothing more than light refractions, and recordings of what they call EVP, which are nothing more than natural noises they've misinterpreted. While I can't speak for anyone else, I think the old-fashioned photos and seances are a lot more interesting than orbs and the static and background noises they call the voices of the dead. I HATE ORBS!!!! Back in the days of spiritualism, people would sit around a table holding hands and try to contact the dead. Even though the mediums were frauds, it was still an opportunity for people to get together and have fun. Now, ghost hunters in baseball caps and black T-shirts walk around with some gadget and pretend they're "picking up" the voices of the dead. Which is more ridiculous?
