This is a really good article. I hope you're planning on doing the other counties in England.

Just for comparisons on the cards: Isn't it true that the person whose fortune is being read has to pick the cards him/herself?

Some friends of mine had intended to visit the Poe House when they drove through Baltimore on the way from Connecticut to Florida last fall, but they said it's in such a bad part of town, they were afraid to stop.

I believe this is St. Mary’s Church, Runwell Road, in Runwell, Wickford, Essex, England. An early priest, known as Rainaldus, was said to have dabbled in the Black Arts. He eventually became so wicked that the Devil tried to snatch his soul and left claw marks on the inside of the south door. The church also has a few ghosts, including the spirits of Lady Sulyard, a former parish clerk and several Roundhead soldiers who vandalized the building during the English Civil War.
The area, including the site of Runwell Hall, is also haunted by a phantom coach, and it is said that circling the church widdershins (counterclockwise) on Christmas Eve will raise this specter. Runwell Hall was rebuilt in the 19th century, using bricks from the old house, and the building is now the Toby Carvery Runwell. Another phantom coach carrying Anne Boleyn is said to haunt the area near what was once Runwell Hall on New Year’s Eve.
Water is a necessity, and Runwell is believed to have been named for a prolific spring or well.
During the Blitz, there was no bomb shelter in Runwell, so during raids, people hid under their beds.

I met a woman yesterday who says she writes paranormal romance novels. I don't read romance novels, so I don't really know what she's talking about. However, when I was much younger, I used to read novels by Barbara Michaels, which had something of a paranormal twist. One in particular I recall is The Devil on Lammas Night. Is anyone familiar with modern paranormal romance novels?

Dateline has shown reruns of this case many times and every time I watch part of it, I wonder how can a woman live with a man whose trying to kill her and not realize there's something wrong. People see what they want to see, and because these women didn't want to believe their husband was trying to kill them, they ignored the signs.

I just heard from a friend in England that the Black Horse Inn is permanently closed. He said it had just reopened under new ownership two years ago.

I just watched a long program on TV about this case and it was the one with the “expert” Catherine says is Jamaican. Just from what little I saw of her on TV, I don’t think she knew what she was talking about, but it was like she was daring anyone to disagree with her. It’s a shame that people like that, who are hired based on something other than their ability, are allowed to give opinions and those opinions are accepted without question.

Did people in England celebrate Halloween back when the Bronte sisters were writing their books? The big fall celebration in England was (and is) Guy Fawkes Night (or Bonfire Night) held on November 5. It has only been in the past few decades that the American celebration of Halloween has made its way to the UK. There were October 31st celebrations in Scotland, and Queen Victoria is said to have held Halloween Celebrations at Balmoral Castle.

I'd like to see more articles like this about the haunted places in other states. I suppose some states are just too big to cover every haunted location, but the New England states are fairly small in comparison.

Back then, teenagers were a lot more mature and responsible than they are today and I think the two older girls would have had better sense than to get into the car with some strange man. Usually, when females get into a car with a stranger, it's because they're hitchhiking and these girls weren't hitchhiking. If the case is ever solved, I think it will turn out to be someone they knew.

I'm from New York and we have a lot of ghost stories but Southern ghost stories are somehow more profound than those in other parts of the country. I agree. I’m from Ohio and during my working years, lived in Indiana, Connecticut, England and several other locations. I’ve always been interested in the paranormal, so everywhere I’ve lived or visited, I went to the library and checked out the local haunted places. I did the same when I moved to Florida and there’s something different about Southern hauntings – “profound” is a good description.

The last I heard, Karum’s defense team was challenging the search warrant that resulted in police raiding his home in Stetson, Maine, in 2019. So far as I know, a trial date has not been set. It's been eight months since you said he was challenging a search warrant. Do you know if the judge agreed with his lawyer, or when the trial will be set?

For some reason, the clues just didn't register. Avebury Manor is an interesting place and so are the stone circles. We had an enjoyable time until we went to the Red Lion, where the food was awful.

Tomorrow will be the 97th anniversary of Valentino's death and I just Googled his name and the most recent write-up about him is from May, nothing at all about the anniversary. Do you suppose the same will be true of Elvis when he's been dead for 97 years? As new "idols" come along, they replace the old ones, and just like Elvis replaced Rudolph Valentino, someone will replace Elvis.
