One of the most accurate films about the Salem Witch Trials was Three Sovereigns for Sarah, a 1985 TV movie starring Vanessa Redgrave, but some of the events, such as the pressing death of Giles Corey, were out of sequence. And, of course, Sarah Cloyce, the main character, wasn’t the educated, outspoken woman depicted in the movie. I noticed that. In the movie, Giles Corey was pressed to death before Rebecca Nurse was hanged, but she was hanged on July 19th and he wasn't pressed to death until September 19th. The meeting house replica, which was built especially for the movie, at the Rebecca Nurse farm, is interesting, and I recommend it to anyone visiting Salem. Actually, it's in Danvers, which was known as Salem Village at the time of the trials, but it's only 5 miles from Salem Town.
The Kirstie Alley movie, which was called Salem Witch Trials, was centered around the wife of Joseph Putnam. In the movie, she was a close friend of the Rev. Parris, even though there's no evidence that she was, and she was accused of witchcraft, even though she wasn't. Another thing I don't understand is why everyone seems to think that most of Ann Putnam's children died at birth: she had around 10 or 11 children and only one died shortly after birth.

We saw these items when we spent a couple of days in Salem on one of our Dark Shadows trips. I enjoyed seeing the items, but the sterile environment where they're displayed is off-putting. The items are in glass cases and the walls are a bright white, which I don't think is appropriate for a witchcraft display.

You'd think something this odd would be well-known, but this is the first I've heard of it.

When I saw this, my first thought was: "Do these people read books so seldom that reading 10 pages is unusual?" Then I looked up the 75 Hard Challenge and found out it has to be some kind of self-help book.
I know some people probably don't drink enough water, but unless you're perspiring a lot, you don't need to drink a gallon daily, and the amount of water a person needs also depends on height and weight. The medical profession and health nuts are always promoting more water and low sodium without telling people that the two combined can be dangerous.

Do a lot of people still go to Memphis on the day Elvis died? Memphis has an entire week, called "Elvis Week," in August every year. This year it's August 9-17.

I think he does, actually. Was it you or someone else planning to visit his museum while on vacation this summer? It was recently and the person talked about driving through Nevada and stopping at the museum in Las Vegas, but I can't find the thread.

There aren't really any close to where I live. I'd really like to go to the Bell Witch Fall Festival in Tennessee, but I'm in eastern Kentucky and it's over 300 miles. If you decide to come, you won't be disappointed. The festival has something for everyone, and if you wait until close to Halloween, it can be very spooky.

There's going to be some sort of event called a "Meet & Greet" at Lyndhurst in Tarrytown on the weekend of October 21-22. We haven't been on a Dark Shadows trip since 2019 -- 4 years! -- and I'd really like to spend a few days in Maine. Catherine, Serena and I are planning to attend the Arkansas Paranormal Expo in Little Rock the weekend of October 28-29, but if we came back on the 27th, we could do both. Or, we could scratch the Arkansas trip -- I'd much rather spend time in Maine than Little Rock! lyndhurst.org/events/meet-greet-dark-shadows/?fbclid=IwAR1Wh-TRV05S_TnJGxVOk_1NafIqyauODtEAzsesikufTqp14Oj4SnduknM It doesn't seem to be much of an event with only Kathryn Leigh Scott and Marie Wallace, but I'm in! I've always wanted to stay at the Black Point Inn close to Halloween. The other times we were there, it was summer. We could attend the Tarrytown on the 21st and leave for Maine the next day.

Today is the 131st anniversary of the Borden murders. I've never been to Fall River, but if I ever go, I think I'd rather visit Maplecroft than the Lizzie Borden B&B. If Lizzie returned from the dead to haunt some place, it would be her house on "The Hill," not the place where the Bordens were killed, which she considered tacky in life and wouldn't be interested in haunting in the afterlife.

Today is the 131st anniversary of the Borden murders. Does anyone know if there have been any changes at the B&B since Ghost Adventures bought it?

Didn't her brother commit suicide a few months after she died? I checked online but the only old newspaper articles I could find say that he committed suicide, so if there's more to the story, I'd like to know.

The Amityville Horror has been on TV 3 or 4 times lately and I watched it again over the weekend. I can't understand why so many people believe all that nonsense really happened. But then, a lot of people believe that Ouija boards are dangerous. Every time I see something -- usually written by some idiot ghost-hunter -- about the dangers of Ouija boards, demons and other foolishness, I'm reminded of the Thought for the Day from a few days ago:
Stupid people share several identifying traits: they are abundant, they are irrational, and they cause problems for others without apparent benefit to themselves, thereby lowering society’s total well-being. There are no defenses against stupidity. The only way a society can avoid being crushed by the burden of its idiots is if the non-stupid work even harder to offset the losses of their stupid brethren. – Professor Carlo M. Cipolla.

I read somewhere that men (and women) with wide faces are more likely to be unfaithful than those with narrow faces and this goon has a wide, incredibly ugly face. I've heard that, too. I think there was even a discussion about it, either a long time ago in this group, or in the old yahoo group.
