What happened to this house? Was it turned into a B&B?

Even if it is what the commonwealth is trying to prove, it doesn't make any sense. What reason did Houck have to kill her? I'm thinking that maybe he wanted custody of their child, but if that was the case, he had enough money that he could have paid off the judge. Since Bardstown is said to be the most corrupt place in Kentucky, I'm sure officials can be bribed.

I've been re-watching Dark Shadows on DVD. Most people rave about the 1795 flashback, but I find the current time episodes more interesting.

Does anyone have a recipe for "pigeon pasties," and do you know if the pigeons used were the common pigeons we have today or passenger pigeons, which are extinct? All the pigeon pie and other pigeon recipes back then were created for passenger pigeons, but you can use regular pigeons. Because they make such a mess in cities and other locations where there are lots of pigeons, people consider them unclean, but they're really just as clean as other birds. I'll try to find an easy pigeon pie recipe and post it.

I have some relatives in Arkansas who swear they've seen the White River Monster.

Life was a lot more interesting when people realized there was a world around them and believed in some of these things. Now, they can't see any farther than their iPads.

I didn't realize she was that old. I thought she was probably no more than in her 70's, like Victoria, Maggie and Carolyn.

It's kind of strange that you say that because I know people in Bardstown and they're all saying basically the same thing. They think if she was killed by Brooks Houck that it was accidental. Like the original article in this thread says, the people of Bardstown are divided on what happened. From what I hear, the folks there are all very gossipy and quarrelsome and they just can't seem to get along. The people I know say there's always something going on that has everyone arguing and feuding. It really is a rotten place. It was gossipy, quarrelsome people that led to the Salem Witch Trials in 1692. Sounds like Bardstown has a lot of the same kind of crabbed characters who can't get along that made up the population of Salem Village.

I read somewhere once that the noise people mistook for spectral hounds flying through the air was actually migrating wild geese. I don't believe this to be the case because back then, people were in tune with nature and aware of their surroundings, and they would have recognized the sounds of geese.

I don't believe Oswald acted alone, but isn't there kind of an "evidence protocol" for federal agents, or any other law enforcement officer? Maybe he had never been involved in a shooting incident before, but placing a bullet on a gurney like that instead of turning it over to his supervisor seems strange to me. What I don't understand is that he says he didn't want the bullet to disappear, but then he places it on the gurney, where it could easily drop to the floor or someone could grab it as a souvenir.

I'd love to visit the Baker's Island lighthouse. Does anyone know if there are any vacation cottages for rent on the island? When we spent a few days in Salem on one of our Dark Shadows trips, we took a cruise that passed by Baker's Island. I would also like to visit the island, preferably during the fall or winter when it isn't crowded.

Do they tell people about the big, ugly cave spiders before they go in? The tour guide tells people about the spiders and claims they aren't poisonous unless a person happens to have an allergic reaction. I would hope people who are afraid of spiders would avoid going into caves.

Do the people who live in the area think the cave is haunted, or that it has anything to do with the Bell Witch? Some may, but those who know anything about the true account of the Bell Witch dismiss the cave as nothing more than a tourist trap.

I saw on some site that before you're allowed to go into the Bell Witch Caves that you have to sign a waiver. Is that some kind of gimmick to attract visitors, or is there some other reason? The waiver is to hold the owners harmless if someone should get hurt while in the cave. The ground is wet and slick with moss, and there's nothing to hold onto but the stone walls, on which there are big, ugly cave spiders. In some places the overhead is so low that people have to bend down to pass through. People with claustrophobia or arachinophobia should avoid the Bell Witch Cave and caves in general.
