We may be spending a few days in Newport before we go to Maine this year. Julia knows someone who knows the owner of Seaview Terrace, the house that played the part of Collinwood on Dark Shadows, and she's trying to arrange to have someone let us tour the house. We're thinking about October now, but probably early October instead of Halloween.

How exciting! I would love to see that house, even if it was just from the outside.

We've just learned that we can visit Seaview Terrace, so we'll be going to Newport before we go to Maine. I found this vintage 60s royal blue suit with mink collar and cuffs on eBay in my size and I'm going to order it for our trip.

At least you're not animal rights crazies who find fur objectionable. But fur isn't going to keep all of you from freezing your asses off in Maine, where the month of October is cold as a witch's tit!

I don't have anything against wearing fur, I have a coat with a mink collar, but in Florida, I don't get to wear it but maybe twice a year. I can understand Elizabeth and Carolyn wearing something trimmed in fur, but not Victoria Winters and Maggie Evans because they were working class girls. I suppose that Dr. Hoffman could afford to wear fur, but she doesn't seem to be the fur type. I'm not being critical because I love reading about your Dark Shadows trips every year, but how do you explain Vickie and Maggie being able to afford to wear fur?

Jason, we've all been in the same online groups for 9 or 10 years and if you didn't know until now that we aren't animal rights crazies, you're dense! FYI, Julia lives in Maine, Lee used to live there and the cold in Alabama and Tennessee feels extremely cold because of the high humidity. So I think that we'll all be able to survive Maine in October.

Well, I play the role of Carolyn, so I could afford a mink-trimmed suit and we've decided that Vicki bought her fox-fur trimmed cape at a consignment shop in Boston. People in Collinsport did go to Boston sometimes.

It's great that you put so much time into your roles. All big cities have shops where you can buy used clothing, some of it hardly worn at all, at a fraction of the price, and I can see Victoria Winters and Maggie Evans going to a store like that in Boston.

When we left Maine, it was below zero and in North Carolina it got down to the 20s and 30s at night and I don't think that I've ever felt colder in my life. I thought I was going to freeze to death!

We're making reservations at the Hotel Viking in Newport. We'll be there from Thursday until Sunday. It has what the internet says is a very good restaurant called Bellevue One. We're also going to eat at the Black Pearl while we're there. For those of you who don't know, the Black Pearl was used for the exterior of the Blue Whale on Dark Shadows.

We'll be there three days and Seaview Terrace will probably take up a half day, so we won't have a lot of time to see the old mansions. We're going to walk along the Cliff Walk and we're definitely going to have dinner at The Black Pearl. We'll probably have dinner at the hotel the 1st night, and at the Black Pearl the 2nd night, and on the 3rd night, we'll go back to whichever of the two is the best.

Do you have any of the clothes that you're going to wear yet? Most of your trips have been in the summer and this one will be in October. Awhile back, someone was talking about a suit trimmed in mink.

Awhile back, someone was talking about a suit trimmed in mink. I think that I may have been the first to say something about fur because I have a fox fur trimmed cloak. It's mauve cashmere and the fur has been dyed to match. As soon as we decided to postpone our trip until October, we all started ordering vintage clothes and so far, I have sort of a heathery mauve drop-waist dress of wool knit, a dark violet cotton knit dress with two rows of gold buttons on the front that's the exact color of a dress Victoria wore on Dark Shadows, a gray and heathery purple plaid skirt with a matching cashmere pullover in the same heathery purple, a cotton knit navy blue dress trimmed with red and navy striped piping and buttons, and a navy wool skirt that I can wear with a red pullover sweater or a light blue cashmere twin-set. We always get outfits in similar colors so that we don't have to take so many shoes to match. I have a pair of dark violet-purple shoes that will match three of my outfits and a pair of navy shoes that I can wear with the others. We haven't decided yet what we're going to wear for evening in Newport. We already have long skirts and evening tops and shoes that we keep at Julia's house, but we'll need to take something for dinner in Newport before we go to Maine.

Awhile back, someone was talking about a suit trimmed in mink. I found the vintage mink-trimmed suit on ebay. It's royal blue, double-breasted with black mink at the collar and cuffs. I ordered it and it just needed to be taken in a little at the waist. I found two vintage dresses on ebay, one is a wool sweater knit in an argyle design of navy, magenta and bright green. They wore a lot of bright green on DS. The other is a wool knit of small-checked plaid of navy, red, gold and ivory. We all keep a lookout on ebay for vintage outfits from the 60's. Dress sizes are a lot different today than they were back then. There were no sizes 0, 2, 4, etc. Dress sizes started at 6 for women and 5 for what they called junior size.
