It's not hard for me to believe that it hung in someone's closet for almost 50 years. The woman who bought it was probably high and it was only after she came down that she realized how godawful ugly it was Jason: I don't think that it's ugly. People wore crazy colors back in the '60s.
I guess they're in Newport now. I hope that they post what they're doing.

Sorry we haven't checked in before now. We arrived in Newport last Thursday, drove from Providence to Newport checked in at the Viking Inn and had dinner in the restaurant. Our rooms in the main inn were very nice. Catherine and Kate had a double room in what is called the annex and they were OK too. Our drive from the airport was sunny, which we didn't like, but the next day was overcast when we visited Collinwood. The house is interesting, but rundown and in need of a lot of repair work. After we visited the house, we walked along the Cliffwalk and that night, we had dinner at the Black Pearl, which was used as the Blue Whale on Dark Shadows. Saturday we walked around the Newport Cemetery and had dinner at the hotel again.
Sunday, which was also sunny, we left for Portland and had dinner at DiMillo's, where we always have lobster when we're in Portland. On Monday, another sunny day, we drove to Bar Harbor and checked in at the Bar Harbor Inn, where we usually stay and had lobster pie that night. Tuesday was overcast and rainy, which we loved because it was Dark Shadows weather, and we drove up the coast to a place called Machiasport, the site of what is said to be the oldest ghost in America, the ghost of Nelly Butler, although Lee and Julia say that the house was actually in Franklin. On the way back, we ate at the Chandler River Lodge in Jonesport. Tuesday and last Thursday have been the only good days we've had so far as the weather, but tomorrow is supposed to be cloudy and raining. It hasn't been cold either, just cool enough for sweaters. Bar Harbor is really deserted in October, nothing like it is in the summer. Tonight at 7:00, we're going on a ghost tour of Bar Harbor. We haven't been on any lighthouse tours this time because they're only during the summer.

Thanks for taking the time to tell us what you've been doing. I've been checking every day. Too bad there hasn't been more rain and fog. Let us know about the ghost tour.

Our Dark Shadows ladies are probably the only people on Earth who pray for rain, storms and fog when they're on vacation!

We left Maine just in time because it was cold yesterday when we flew home.
We had a good trip, especially our time in Newport and visiting Collinwood, but we had only 3 cloudy, rainy days out of the 10 days that we were there and it's hard to get in a Dark Shadows mood on a bright, sunny day. The ghost tour was interesting and Bar Harbor wasn't crowded like it is in the summer and we saw some beautiful fall foliage, but it would have been better with fog and stormy weather.
Next year will be the 50th Anniversary of when Dark Shadows first began on June 27, 1966, but we still don't have any idea where it's going to be. We're hoping for the east coast instead of California.
