My First Ghost
About a year after my maternal Grandfather died, Mom and Dad took the three of us boys over to Granny’s house to spend the night. We had some dinner, watched Granny’s color TV and then went to bed. Stewart and Bryan slept in the back bedroom and I slept in Foddy’s old bed. I had trouble sleeping because, not only was I in a strange bed, but I had the feeling that I was being watched. I sat up and looked over toward the bedroom door and sensed a presence there! It gave me a terrible fright! I woke Granny up and pleaded for her to call Mom and Dad to come and get me. As soon as I became frightened, the presence vanished. Mom and Dad came and got me and took me home to where I slept in my own bed. Thinking about it now and looking back, I’m pretty sure that it was just Foddy looking in on me, checking out his beloved wife and his grandson. I never told anyone about this until last month. I told Bryan and it gave him the creeps. But that was the first.

Midnight Man Welcome Midnight Man. I live in Appalachia, where a lot of folks tell about seeing dead relatives. I guess that kind of thing is frowned on in some places, but I've always believed in ghosts and other strange things and I think most folks here do.

Midnight Man Are the ghosts you see unexpected or are you able to see them at will, like a medium?

Hi Kitty and Sam. The ghosts I have encountered have all been unexpected. Sometimes I wish i could see them at will. I'm pretty sure it would depend upon the circumstances. Glad to be here. Happy to meet you. Midnight Man

You say that this was your first ghost. Have you seen others since then? Yes I have. Most of my encounters happened between the years 2005 and 2015. Ever sine then, I've had a ghostly encounter once in a while.

The third incident took place in Austin, Texas on August 19, 1995 between 11:30pm and Midnight. A friend of mine named Kevin had been going thru some bad times of late. He had been suffering from partial paralysis from an injury he had sustained years ago in a diving accident. His business was failing, his bank account was dwindling and since he had lost his lease with the apartment he lived in, he had to live with a friend until he could get back on his feet. As sometimes happens in all of us, Kevin lost hope and felt that there was no way out and so, committed suicide on August 17th. I was told about this the next day by a mutual friend of ours. A bunch of us got together later to remember him & grieve. Two nights later, while at a payphone at the corner of S. Lamar and Barton Skyway (a well lit street corner) talking to a lady friend/DJ at KMGC FM, I caught a glimpse of something moving out of the corner of my right eye. I looked to my right across the street and saw Kevin! He was walking without any sign of paralysis at all! He looked completely solid. As he walked he looked at me, smiled, nodded, and then disappeared! Oddly enough, I was not frightened by the experience, but I sure was surprised. I went and told another mutual friend of ours of my encounter and he told me that he had heard that Kevin' Sister In Law had also seen him. According to her report, she was making some sandwiches in the kitchen of the house she shared with her husband, Drew (Kevin' brother), when she felt a chill, followed by the feeling that she was being watched. When she turned around, Kevin was standing in the doorway of the kitchen a few feet away from her. He spoke to her saying, "I'm okay. Everything is alright. Where's Drew?" She screamed and he disappeared. She and I are the only ones who saw him. Two days later, Kevin was taken to Dallas and laid to rest there. As far as I know, his ghost has not been seen since.

That's interesting. Seeing a spirit at the time a person dies is somewhat common. I've heard of people who saw a dead relative at the time they died, even though they were many miles away. I've always heard that in the next world, all our illnesses and disabilities are gone, which explains why he was walking normally.

I've heard a lot of folks talk about seeing a relative or friend when they died. Even Loretta Lynn, who grew up about 50 miles from where I live, saw her father when he died, even though she was all the way on the other side of the country in Washington state. She also said that once when she came back to Kentucky to visit, she saw her father's spirit sitting on the porch of their old house. Here in Appalachia, folks believe that some people can see spirits and some can't, but I don't think that they consider it a gift. Your friend being completely healed from his paralysis when you saw him reminds me of one of my favorite photos of the grave a little boy who was in a wheelchair - whatliesbeyond.boards.net/thread/120/unusual-tombstone-matthew-stanford-robison

This has got to be the strangest thing yet. What The Map Revealed From 2005 until 2010 and with the help and support of Sander/Moses Productions, I promoted the CBS TV Series "Ghost Whisperer" quite extensively through my website. I had descriptions of episodes, brief character bios, brief bios of the stars, information on music used in episodes, a forum, a chat room, a guestbook and a hit counter with map showing where people would hit my website from. One particular evening after a particularly chilling episode, I decided to go into my office to check the hit counter. One hit came from Los Angeles, California. I excitedly thought that someone from Universal at Sander/Moses must have checked out my website. As I zoomed in on the location, I noticed that the location of the hit came from south of Universal Studios. I zoomed in again and noticed that the location was just a little bit north of I-10. I zoomed in closer and was puzzled as all the streets gave way to what looked like an open field. "What's going on here", I asked myself? Puzzled, yet pleased by the mystery before me, I pulled up Google Earth and matched it with what I had visible on my Map. I found the field and zoomed in closer. As I did and got a good look at the location of the page hit, I got chills from head to toe! It reminded me of an old episode of the Twilight Zone. www.slspencer.com/Sounds/Nightcall.mp3Rosedale Cemetery to be exact. I checked the time in which the page was hit. 8:30PM. Three and a half hours after the gates closed and when Los Angeles was in full dark. www.slspencer.com/Graphics/Website%20Hit.jpg

Is it possible that someone was using an I-Pad or something in the cemetery? People trespass in closed cemeteries all the time.

But why do it from a closed Cemetery in a rough part of town?

But why do it from a closed Cemetery in a rough part of town?
I don't know what it was, but you'd be surprised what people do in closed cemeteries at night, no matter what part of town they're in. Cemetery workers find all kinds of things people drop or get scared and leave behind in the cemetery at night: alcohol, jewelry, candles, cellphones, Ouija boards, cloths with pentagrams on them, statues, strange concoctions, cameras, ghost-hunting gadgets, even expensive laptops.
