Human Skeleton in Coffin Found in Old Derby Building DERBY, Kan. – Monday was supposed to be a normal workday for Eliseo Flores, but it turned out to be one of the strangest and most frightening he’s ever had as a construction worker. While remodeling the old Simonsen Plumbing building at 125 West Market Street, he found a human skeleton.
“We’re remodeling this building and I tried to take down all the insulation, so when I removed the insulation on top of the ceiling I found a box,” Flores explained. Curious, he opened the box, thinking “I’m going to be rich, I found treasure!” But it was no treasure in the hexagonal box, it was human bones. “When I opened it,” he declared, “ah, my surprise was, a whole body there and the head scared me.”
Flores reported his find and police were notified. Investigators are attempting to figure out how the bones got there and most importantly, to whom they belong. The building, which had been a plumbing business for decades, was sold last fall. Eyewitness news called Greg Simonsen, the former business owner, but he declined to comment on the situation.
Meanwhile, Flores is back at work remodeling the building for its new owners. Though he’s doubtful the mystery of the bones will be solved, he has his own theory. “I think somebody knows,” he said, “because somebody made the coffin, the coffin is very nice, somebody put him there.”
The remains are being analyzed at the Sedgwick County forensic science center where it is h oped the gender and age can be determined. Because the bones are so old, Wichita State's forensic anthropologists will also be involved.Source: KWCH, June 19, 2018.

It looks like an adult whose bones were taken apart and stuffed in a child's coffin.
