Thanks for posting these photos. People of all ages enjoyed Halloween more back when they didn't have to worry about their costumes offending some race or group.

That's really a scary mask on the small child and the way she's sitting there on that old wicker settee makes a really spooky picture.

It's funny, I just read an article recently about how people were upset that Halloween had taken a very "violent and disturbing" turn in the past decade, yet here we see this picture that proves it's not a new phenomenon after all.

People seemed to have had more original ideas for costumes back in times past. Who would have ever thought of making a Halloween costume for a horse?

I saw one on FB where the person had actually painted a skeleton on her black horse. She dressed in a headless costume and rode the horse around. It wasn't and old photo, this was recent. I'll see if I can find the photo.

I find the imaginations of those who came fifty, sixty or even a hundred years before us, more compelling. Someone who painted a horse ten or twenty years ago, isn't nearly as interesting as someone who did it, say seventy years ago, We have stretches of the imagination in our faces daily; whereas, those who came before drew on something inside of themselves. A cleverness, a quick wit, a sense of the macabre, a SOMETHING.... that they could only exhibit once In awhile, when the time was right,
THEY are impressive.

People today go on the internet to get ideas for Halloween costumes, or buy them, and they aren't unique like they were back then.
