A "high probability match" means statistically he is the 1 person in the entire city of Houston (over 2 million people) that comes up as a match. In fact, it is more like the city of Chicago (closer to over a 3 million populous). There is no such testing analysis that boasts a 100% DNA match. That is not how results are reported. DNA alone does not mean he necessarily committed the heinous crime; however, Degan’s DNA does place him at the crime scene. If he didn't actually commit the murders, he has to know who did. It is a scientific fact that DNA, when preserved properly, survives for over a million years. The operative phrase in your post is: "DNA, when preserved properly, survives for over a million years." No one knows if the DNA was preserved properly and there are many ways DNA can be contaminated. I also question your claim that a person's DNA places them at the scene of the crime. DNA of people who weren't present is often found at rape and murder scenes. The guy may be guilty, but if I were on the jury, the prosecutor would need something more than a 30 year old DNA sample from a house that the man had visited to get a guilty vote from me.
I agree; however in this case, Edmond Degan will have to explain how his semen was in Yleen's vagina, who in her last hours experienced a traumatic rape. In addition, wouldn't the tipster be considered a key witness in this case?

I couldn't agree more with Jason. I'm going to need a little more than a 30 year old DNA sample. A certain someone can accuse and think what they want but I need a little more evidence than that.

Or what he thinks the jury needs.

There are several old Cold cases that have been solved using 30+ year old DNA evidence in court thanks to the advancements in technology. It is a standard practice for the Defense to try to discredit any DNA evidence by questioning lab procedure, contamination, etc. Praying for all families involved and hoping the Kennedy Sisters finally receive the justice they so desperately deserve!

yellowrose you seem pretty convinced that Edmond committed the crime so we'll just see what investigators come up with. Until then, why don't you keep accusations like that to yourself, it'll keep you from looking stupid. I hope the Kennedy family gets justice as well. I want them to get justice just as much as I want my dad to get justice. I'm not on sides with them.

I also believe in advocacy for victim rights. These ladies are not here to speak. Why is it OK for you to express your opinions on the case but not allow others to do so? This is a discussion board. There is absolutely no reason for insults. Our justice system can be flawed but this is the system we have to work with. It is a travesty when innocent people are accused of crimes as much as it is when the guilty walk free. We can only pray that justice is served. When is the trial date?

Absolutely, without a doubt and that is horrible. It's just as bad that cases like this remain open for decades while the murderer has been walking free amongst us.

He's my dad so this is all a sensitive subject for me and it seemed to me like you were picking sides and attacking him.

Back a few years ago, a woman I think was in a Midwestern state who did all of the DNA testing falsified results, so there are definitely problems with DNA. I'd like to see the man who killed these two sisters tried and convicted, but after 30 years, a lot could have happened to the DNA sample.

Harris County Inmate here, 1200 Baker in 3B1 from September 2nd, 2015 to January 1st, 2016. I personally and recently know Edmond. Yes, people do horrible things and live a unsuspecting life. Its part of the game to them. Fact is, a guy already in trouble made these claims. How much weight does his word hold? Not much. And just as his daughter said, he was her boyfriend at the time. Yes DNA does not lie but you need to be way more intelligent. HE WAS HER BOYFRIEND! I feel this case is complete crap! You need more evidence besides a criminal, who is currently facing a jail sentence, saying "I think he may have did it". This is complete crap and he should be free now. Its supposed to be beyond a reasonable doubt, not "we think and have nobody better". Too many people locked up on circumstantial bull crap. If you can not prove it, let him go. I got out about 11 months ago and I believe a innocent man is locked up. I banged a guy up when he and his buddy attacked me and my 59 year old disabled father. Completely in my rights. Cops said I should have waited for them to speak to them. I barley got away with my life, they were trying to kill us! I had to either sign for a conviction, wait over a year to go to trial or bond out. My bond was $3,000 so that cant happen, I'm poor! Cant wait because my 59 year old disabled father needs me. I had to sign when I was truly innocent. I fear the very one sided court system greatly now. Should not be that way! I dont think he did it but what does my opinion matter. I am a criminal, unjustly so, but still my word holds no weight. I dont know for sure if he is innocent, I believe he is, dont know for sure though. I am just saying, if it were your family, you would not like people being so judgemental with such lack of evidence. Be fair people, more evidence is required I believe before a conviction. Thats why they keep putting the trial off. To try and gather evidence that does not exist. May the higher power have mercy on your soul when you show none, SHAME!!!

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. If he was her boyfriend, that makes a big difference. The problem I have is that if Degan was Yleen Kennedy's boyfriend, why didn't anyone hear about it until after he was arrested? Why wasn't he mentioned in the articles about the murders when they occurred back in 1984? If he was her boyfriend, he should have been interrogated back then.

Lillie was my aunt and she was shot in the head and murdered when I was 11 back in 1984. Lillie and my uncle were separated at the time and he blamed himself that she was staying with her sister and that she was in the wrong place at the wrong time. He was never the same after her murder and fell into heavy alcohol abuse where he is even today. I hope a fair trail and if convicted I hope he receives his due justice in Huntsville. The stupid decision of a selfish person for the benefit of a couple hundred dollars ended and destroyed many lives.
