Camera Technique for Taking Ghost Photos
The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado is reputed to be one of the most haunted hotels in the U.S. The Rocky Mountain Ghost Explorers paranormal investigation group has conducted several ghost hunts there with a good degree of success. One of their successes was documented in the article “Ghost Materializes at Stanley Hotel.” In the following article, investigator Kris Tennant explains some the group's techniques.
My technique to capture apparitions is based on using a camera with the capability of taking high-speed multiple frames per second. This method has proved to be successful because the theory is that spirits vibrate at a higher frequency, hence the faster motion of appearance and disappearance would need a fast shutter speed and continual frame capture. The camera I now use is capable of 10 pictures per second at full resolution. A slower speed camera might not capture the higher frequency event of a spirit manifestation.
During my Stanley Hotel visit, the one where the Flora Stanley apparition appeared, I was going to use my regular camera, which is not one that is capable of continuous shooting at very high speeds. When I went to turn it on, the batteries were dead, as were all the other batteries I brought along. I was then forced to use my cell phone camera, which does take continuous frames, but not as fast as the camera I now have. But the cell phone camera did take pictures at a faster rate than the camera I was going to use then.
Had this blessing in disguise not happened and had I not used the cell phone camera, I may not have been able to capture Flora's apparition. My regular camera would not have taken the amount of pics the cell phone camera did, and I would have probably missed the formation of Flora's ghost.
The appearance speed could be equated to the speed of the blades of a helicopter or a fan, motion being able to be frozen in time with fast speed equipment.
Shadow Child. About an hour later, I went to the third floor of the hotel. I stood in one spot near the railing and began shooting pictures in quick succession. During my photo capture session, I found that the cell phone camera began to act strangely. This is why I began to immediately review the pictures. To my amazement, the photo shown here of the shadow figure in the Stanley hallway is what I captured. Previous frames in the same spot showed no shadow person.
I believe that the photo is blurred due to the commonly known theory that when spirits manifest they draw energy from your equipment. I have seen this occur in other ghost photos taken by others. In this photo you can clearly see what appears to be the shadow figure of a small child with its arm extended above it, resting its hand on the wall.
With the photo enlarged, if you look at the foot area, it appears to me what could possibly be an old-fashioned boot. I was the only living person in the hallway at the time I captured that apparition. This turned out to be a very lucky investigation for me.
Taking multiple shots of the same spot can be a benefit, especially if there may be something in the area as indicated by other pieces of equipment. Ten pictures per second is bound to capture the fastest ghost. I will take many shots in one area, then review the entire capture sequence later to see if any unique evidence might just be seen.
That is why I purchased the camera I now use. If more people would use these higher speed continuous shot cameras, more ghostly apparitions might start being seen more regularly.
I also have a special unique technique I use during spirit box sessions, one I believe no one else uses. I have a lot of success with this technique. I will be putting together a video of this technique in the near future. It will show me using the spirit box and technique.
Also, we have been named as the paranormal team to represent and support the Evergreen Cemetery Benevolent Society at Evergreen Cemetery in Colorado Springs. As such, we will be presenting paranormal venues per month over the year in their chapel above the haunted crypt that has been featured on the My Ghost Story show. We are doing this all as no money to us, with all proceeds to be used for cemetery renovation.
