Mysterious Signals from Faraway GalaxyMysterious radio signals have reached Earth from a galaxy far, far away. The strange beams, known as fast radio bursts (FRBs), last no more than a millisecond, but scientists say each pulse carries as much energy as our sun emits in a century.
The signals are coming from the edge of a dwarf galaxy 3 billion light-years from Earth, and it has been suggested the flashes are messages from alien civilizations with technology far superior to ours.
A second theory is that the bursts are the result of a collision and subsequent explosion of incredibly dense matter, such as a black hole or neutron star. Yet another theory is that the FRBs are created when distant stars collapse.
