Witch costume connection in hunt for Mei Fan's killerWELLINGTON, New Zealand – Investigators working to solve the mystery of who killed Wellington woman Mei Fan have turned their attention to a mass-produced Halloween costume.
Ms Fan, a 37-year-old Chinese national, died in what police described as "a brutal and vicious attack" in her Miramar home in November last year, shortly after walking her two children to school down the road.
Police have now turned their attention to a Halloween costume, featuring a black witch's hat and cape, most likely bought in Wellington in October 2011. They are looking to find identical costumes purchased around the same time.
"I don't for one minute suggest Mei's killer wore a witch's costume as part of a disguise, however for reasons that I cannot disclose it is important that we locate similar costumes," says Detective Senior Sergeant John van den Heuvel. "We know, of course, that these costumes are mass produced, imported and sold widely throughout New Zealand."
Mr van den Heuvel says this particular costume has black wispy hair strands attached to the inner rim of the hat. Last week, police revealed someone broke into the crime scene where Ms Fan was found dead and left a note with a religious verse printed on it. It has also been revealed that a unique carving knife was believed to have been used in the attack.Source: OneNews, April 4, 2014.

This article is very vague. What is the connection between the witch costume and the crime scene? Did someone witness someone dressed as a witch leaving the woman's house at around the time of her death?
