Hi
Name is Vicky I’m from UK. Found this forum while looking at crime stories. It’s brilliant I like how open it is. Very good to read. I’m in no way any kind of professional but I’ve been reading about true crime and missing persons for probably 20 years or more. One of my wishes was to study criminology but my life hasn’t been very easy. Been through since horrific things. I have a tremendous amount of empathy for victims. I feel I could have been a good person in this type of job.

Don't give up, maybe you can still pursue a career in criminal justice or some related field.
I've always wanted to visit the UK, but haven't been able to do so yet, but I'm still hoping that one day I will have the opportunity. I have almost all the DVDs of Midsomer Murders, up until the time Brian True-May was replaced, and watch them frequently. I know it isn't realistic, but it is (or was) my favorite British TV show of all time. I don't like the newer ones with Neil Dudgeon.

I'm a deputy sheriff in a small city in the Appalachian Mountains of Kentucky, but most of the cases we handle are just run-of-the-mill things like drugs, domestic violence, petty theft, etc. I've never traveled anywhere outside of America, but I'm a Sherlock Holmes fan, the original stories, not those on that modern show "Sherlock," which I don't like, and I've read a lot about Jack the Ripper and places in Britain like Dartmoor.

I don't know a lot about the legal system in the UK, except that it's very different from ours.
A group of us spent a month in England a few years ago and we visited a lot of haunted sites and other interesting places like the Tower of London, Whitby, Pendle Hill, Avebury and Stonehenge, Dartmoor, the Museum of Witchcraft in Cornwall, Clapham Wood, etc. We chartered a private bus and the driver and his wife were very nice and helpful. We started out in London and spent 3 to 4 nights in the locations we visited, which included Norfolk, Yorkshire, Cumbria, Lancashire, Wiltshire, Cornwall, Devonshire, West Sussex and then back to London. In London, we went on a Jack the Ripper tour, ate at the Sherlock Holmes restaurant, visited Highgate Cemetery and attended two plays, The Mousetrap and The Woman in Black.

I know education in the UK is different from ours, but there must be colleges and universities that offer online degrees that you could take in your spare time. I knew serial killer Ted Bundy growing up and although I love reading about true crime, I was never interested in pursuing a career in criminal justice.
Anyway, you're very welcome and I hope you'll share what you know about some of the many interesting cases in the UK.
