Mysterious Ground-shaking Boom Rocks Montgomery County, Tennessee
A loud, ground-shaking boom rocked Montgomery County, Tennessee, at approximately 9:50 p.m., Saturday (September 4), resulting in numerous calls to authorities. Montgomery County is 20+ miles northwest of Nashville on the Kentucky border.
Law enforcement officers and members of the fire department searched for hours, but found nothing. In a Facebook post, the Clarksville Police Department wrote: “The sound was heard across many parts of Montgomery County but there have been no reports of any injuries or property damage. The Clarksville Police Department, Fire Department, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) searched for a couple of hours but were unable to locate the source.”
The United States Geological Survey did not register any seismic activity in the area, and no training exercises were taking place at Fort Campbell, the army base just across the Kentucky border.
Dee Boaz initially thought it was a boat explosion she heard, but when she looked out onto the Cumberland River, saw nothing out of the ordinary. “It was just so odd,” she recalled. She also claimed to have smelled something strange, which she described as “not a normal kind of odor.”
“Currently, this seems to be some sort of unknown phenomena until someone reports actual damage,” a police spokesperson added.
Those commenting online concerning the incident proposed various theories, with one individual reminding everyone that Montgomery County is just a few miles south of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, where a family was terrorized by visitors from outer space back in August of 1955.
Such remarks prompted a comment by intelligence analyst Stephanie Rattray, who said, “A lot of people are obviously saying the conspiracy theory of aliens because you’ve got to have some crazy in the mix.”
