Store-bought Gingerbread House Came with Resident SpiderKatie Gompertz of Sydney, Australia, listened to friends and purchased a gingerbread house at the Woolworths supermarket chain, but when she got home, she discovered the confectionery house came with a resident: a huge spider! Even worse, the female huntsman spider – which can have a leg-span of up to almost 6 inches, was carrying an egg sac.
Gompertz told reporters she immediately contacted Woolworths and was instructed to return the item.
“Woolies I love you and all your goodies but I am not sticking that in my car,” she replied. “It’s 2020, so obviously it’ll hatch it’s tiny little offspring x 200 as soon as it gets into my car.” She posted pictures of the huntsman spider inside the package. “Buy a ready-made gingerbread house, they said. It’ll be easier than building one, they said.” Gompertz wrote on social media. “Seriously, I don’t say this often, but why me?”
The supermarket chain finally agreed to deliver a replacement instead. Source: Ann W. Schmidt, Fox News, December 15, 2020.
