Pennsylvania Bakery's 'Election-themed' Cookies Predict Winner
The tally isn’t complete yet, but when it comes to cookies, one candidate is the clear winner.
Lochel’s, a family-owned bakery in Hatboro, has reported the shop’s red Trump-themed cookies are “vastly” outselling its blue Biden-themed cookies by a margin of almost 6 to 1. In fact, the sweets are in such demand, people are driving from neighboring states to purchase them. “We had one guy drive twice from Staten Island for them,” said bakery owner Kathleen Lochel.
According to Ms. Lochel, the informal “cookie poll” has accurately predicted the outcome of the last three presidential elections. The final cookie tally won’t be in until Election Day, but right now, “Donald Trump is still in the lead,” she continued, with the red-decorated treats outselling the blue approximately 28,000 to 5,000. “By the end of today’s sales, knowing the orders we have,” the Trump cookies “ should probably approach 29,000.”
She denies the bakery is attempting to make a political statement. “If people could just look at the whole picture and see that a small business has overcome the pandemic by thinking out of the box … I hope that inspires others to stay afloat, stay the course, and hopefully we’ll all survive,” she added.
After the actual votes are counted and a winner is declared, the bakery will debut a “celebratory” cookie in honor of the man who wins.
