Thrash Metal Drummer Believes He Went to Hell While in Coronavirus Coma
In March, drummer Will Carroll of the thrash metal band Death Angel returned from a European tour and discovered he had contracted the China virus. In critical condition, the 47-year-old musician was admitted to the California Pacific Medical Center and for two weeks, he was comatose on a ventilator.
According to pulmonologist George Horng, M.D., Carroll “was near the limits of what we could do with our supportive care and we were very worried about him. He wasn’t getting worse, but if he were to get worse, there wasn’t much more that we could have done.”
When he finally awakened on March 30th, Carroll recalls seeing “tubes coming in and out of me and there was a nurse right there. My first words,” he later says, “were ‘Am I still in hell?’”
While he was in a coma, it seems Carroll believes he went to hell, where he came face-to-face with Satan himself. He also encountered a female devil who rebuked him for laziness and turned him into a “Jabba the Hutt-like-monster” who commenced vomiting blood, which brought on a heart attack.
Now, after his visit to hell, the drummer claims he has given up hard liquor and bong rips and will self-medicate with the occasional hard cider and edible marijuana only. He insists his awakening feels like rebirth. “I’m still going to listen to Satanic metal,” he admits, “and I still love Deicide and bands like that. As far as for my personal life and my experience of what I went through, I don’t think Satan’s quite as cool as I used to.”
