2014 ‘Dark Shadows’ Festival Announced The Dark Shadows Festival 2014 weekend event will take place in Tarrytown, New York, June 28-29, marking Dark Shadows' 48th anniversary.
Activities begin Saturday, June 28, from noon to 9.00 p.m. at the historic Lyndhurst Estate (pictured above), which served as Collinwood in the films House of Dark Shadows and Night of Dark Shadows. David Selby (Quentin Collins) will be making his first return to the property since shooting the latter film more than four decades ago and will perform a special music and dramatic tribute to Dark Shadows and its fans. Joining Selby will be James Storm (Gerard Stiles), Lara Parker (Angelique), Kathryn Leigh Scott (Maggie Evans), Nancy Barrett (Carolyn Stoddard) and, health-permitting, John Karlen (Willie Loomis). Other guests will be announced in due course.
In addition to guest talks and high-definition screenings of both classic Dark Shadows movies, there will also be the premiere of Collinwood at the Cinema – Behind The Scenes, a new video featuring unseen material and other surprises. These activities will be held in the Lyndhurst stable complex and tented courtyard, all with air-conditioning. Additionally, each attendee may tour the interior of the historic Lyndhurst mansion, which featured prominently in both classic Dark Shadows movies.
On Sunday, June 29, day two, the Festival Weekend will move a few hundred yards down the street to the DoubleTree Tarrytown Hotel for the Dark Shadows Celebrity Luncheon from 11.30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Each attendee will enjoy a three-course meal and receive a Dark Shadows gift bag. After lunch, actors will sign autographs and there will be a special stage performance by Kathryn Leigh Scott, Lara Parker and Marie Wallace (Eve).
The Tarrytown DoubleTree Hotel, located at 455 South Broadway in Tarrytown, is the host venue for the weekend. A special Dark Shadows Festival reduced room rate of $149.00, plus tax, is available by calling 914-631-5700 and quoting the group discount code "DSF.” The same code may also be used to receive the discount rate when booking online at the Doubletree Tarrytown Hotel website. Reduced rate rooms are limited and fans are encouraged to make reservations as soon as possible.
Festival membership rates and other information will be available soon at the Dark Shadows Festival website. You can also receive an advance postal mailing for the event by sending a self-addressed, stamped envelope to: Dark Shadows, Post Office Box 92, Maplewood, NJ 07040-0092.

Since the Festival is at the end of June, that means we're going to have to work around the 4th of July weekend for our DS trip. Even if we make sure that we're not flying or driving the 4th of July, all the hotels and restaurants will probably be crowded.

So why don't you make your trip to Maine first before it gets crowded in July?

He's right. It won't be crowded, but some places won't be open, so you should check to see if restaurants and so on are open. Of course since Julia lives in Maine, she will know to do that.

We've been checking and most of the places that we've checked so far open around May. I guess that's when spring begins in Maine. It will be a change for us to go on our Maine vacation before the Dark Shadows Festival, but I'd like to try it if the others will agree to it.

We scratched the plans to take our Maine trip before the Dark Shadows Festival because some of us thought that it wouldn't feel right. The Festival always gets into a "Dark Shadows" mood. Anyway, we're flying to Tarrytown on the 26th of June, a Thursday. Lee, Catherine, Kate and I will fly to White Plains, which is near Tarrytown and rent our SUV and Julia will fly to LaGuardia and get a taxi to Tarrytown. On Monday, the 30th, we will drive to Portland, where Julia lives, and rest the next day, and then on the 2nd of July, we will drive to the Algonquin Inn in Saint Andrews, New Brunswick in Canada. It's an old resort hotel that opened in 1889. It's been renovated, but the exterior is like it was over a hundred years ago. Saint Andrews is on the coast overlooking Passamaquoddy Bay. Because it's in Canada, we won't have to deal with all of the 4th of July tourists. July 1st is a holiday in Canada, but we will be in Portland that day and won't check in to the hotel until the 2nd. It's also haunted! Here's a photo of the exterior of the Algonquin: The Elizabethan exterior reminds me of Collinwood! I hope it's nice and foggy while we're there.

What a beautiful old hotel and the fog makes it spooky. I've never been to New Brunswick. I'll bet there are lots of haunted places and lighthouses on the coast of New Brunswick just like there are on the coast of Maine. Please keep us updated on what you're doing. I LOVE to read about your Dark Shadows trips. It's the next best think to being there!

We have had a change of plans. We discovered they allow dogs at the Algonquin and there aren't any "no-dog rooms," so we have to find someplace else. I can't believe that Lee and Maddie didn't check on this before they suggested it!

Well, Boo-Hoo! Is there something wrong with you that you can't help check things out? Why do you depend on Lee and Maddie to do everything?

They offered to find and check out the hotels. Not that it's any of your business!

We've made alternate plans for our trip. We're going to spend three days and nights in Salem after we leave the Dark Shadows Convention in Tarrytown. Catherine, Kate and I have will be staying at the Stephen Daniels House, which was built in the mid 1600s, so it was standing during the Salem Witch Trials. It's also haunted and on Tripadvisor, people talk about seeing and feeling ghosts in the house. Lee and Julia will be staying nearby at the Salem Waterfront Inn. They think we're making a mistake staying at the Daniels House.
After Salem, we'll drive to Portland and then just south of Portland to the Black Point Inn, which is right on the shore where there's a Cliff Path. The opening of Dark Shadows, which shows the waves crashing against the rocks, was filmed from the Cliff Path.
I'll post photos of both the Daniels House and the Black Point Inn later.

Why do they feel you're making a mistake in staying there? Is it because they think of it as a tourist trap?
I agree with April, please post photos and let us know what sights you see, places you eat, etc.

I have some friends who stayed there two or three years ago and they said that the old woman who operates it was really weird and the place was musty, like an old attic that is seldom opened. They said they wouldn't stay there again.
