Man Repeatedly Runs Over, Kills Girlfriend with Car
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Police are investigating a domestic violence incident in which a Memphis woman died. According to police, Santrez Traylor (above left), 34, is accused of hitting 31-year-old Amanda Petrowski (right) with his car around 9 p.m. Sunday. He was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and two counts of aggravated assault, authorities said. Officers initially responded to a call about someone who was armed.
“This murder stemmed from a domestic violence incident between the victim and Traylor. The preliminary information indicated that Traylor hit the victim with his vehicle,” a spokesperson for the Memphis Police Department said.
Witnesses told WHBQ they saw the entire incident unfold in front of the victim’s home. “I witnessed a murder,” neighbor Jay Smoot insisted. “It’s pretty, pretty overwhelming.”
Witnesses also heard a confrontation between the victim and Traylor, who was her boyfriend. One neighbor said Traylor hit Petrowski with a brick. “She was standing when he first hit her and then she fell down and he repeatedly was hitting her with the brick,” the neighbor said. “[He was] kicking, punching her. He was trying to make sure she was dead.”
Moments later, witnesses said, Traylor went into the house and got keys to a car in the driveway and repeatedly ran her over. “He was backing up the car and running over her, backing up the car and running over her. I witnessed it about four times,” another neighbor added.
According to a police affidavit, Traylor was charged with criminal trespass and domestic assault last month when he came to the victim’s home threatening to hurt their children. The document also detailed several other incidents of domestic violence between the suspect and victim.
Traylor fled the scene before officers arrived, but was later arrested and charged with second-degree murder and two counts of aggravated assault. Police did not specify if Traylor was armed at the time of the incident.
