North Carolina Student Missing Since April 21
BOONE, N.C. – Boone police are asking for help from the public in the disappearance of a college student who was last seen April 21. James “Martin” Roberts, 19, was last seen around 12:30 p.m. near the intersection of Hardin and Rivers streets near the Appalachian State University Convocation Center. Detectives are expanding the investigation and search area.
The High Country Crime Stoppers page indicates Boone police have followed numerous leads and tips, but have been unable to locate Roberts or to determine where he went after he 12:30. "We are pulling every string to see where it leads," Sgt. Shane Robbins of the Boone Police Department told NBC’s Dateline. "We've had detectives working all weekend on this. And we're going to continue doing everything we can to find this young man."
Roberts, who is from Kernersville, N.C., lives in Boone. He belongs to the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity at Appalachian State and has been attending Caldwell Community College, but plans to re-enroll at ASU this fall, his family said. When last seen, Roberts was wearing a black, short-sleeved Appalachian State windbreaker, khaki shorts, grey New Balance shoes and a white golf visor hat. He has a large family that loves and supports him, according to the Crime Stoppers post. The family indicates Roberts’ disappearance is totally out of character for him, so they are very concerned. He enjoys hiking, camping and spending time on the trails in and around the Blue Ridge Parkway, they said.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Boone Police Department at 828-268-6900 or High Country Crime Stoppers at 828-268-6959 or 828-737-0125.
