Not only did she have the child of a convicted killer, the State of Florida had to support that child, because while she was living in Gainesville, she received AFDC and other state assistance programs. I saw Carol Boone once at a restaurant in Gainesville when she was being interviewed by some kind of news reporter or author. They were sitting at a booth across from us and I couldn't help overhearing some of what they were saying. I asked the waiter what was going on and he said that she was Ted Bundy's wife. She was what I would call a coarse, big-boned woman and there wasn't anything attractive about her.
To me, the most frightening thing in this article, which is very good by the way, is that his girlfriend suspected that he might have killed the girls at the lake. If I'd ever seen the look on a man's face that I was dating like what she saw, I wouldn't have been dating him any longer. There's a woman in my African violet club who knew Carole Boone when she lived in Gainesville and she didn't think much of her. One of the reasons, of course, was because she was receiving benefits from the state to support the child of a serial killer, but she apparently changed somewhat through the years. At first, she was proud to be Ted Bundy's wife and acted like a martyr, but then she gradually got to where she didn't advertise the fact and seemed ashamed of her association with him. But what the lady I know said she found most remarkable was that Boone didn't seem to understand why everyone gave her and her children the cold shoulder and didn't want to associate with them.

Every year I think of these murders. I remember them like it was yesterday. I was a teen at the time and because of all the disappearances of girls and young women in the area, our parents insisted that we couldn't go out alone at night, that we had to go with a friend. Then this happened and everyone realized that women could be abducted in broad daylight with hundreds of people around. As I've said before, I knew Ted Bundy and his family and even though it was in the papers that a man named "Ted" could be connected to the disappearances, never in a million years did I think it was him. It's like he said in today's "Thought for the Day," there are no stereotypes.

I know you've said that you didn't think he was a hunk, like he has been shown in some of the movies about him, but did you like him as a person?

I liked him as any girl would like a girlfriend's older brother. If you're asking if I had a crush on him, the answer is no. In the movies, he's portrayed as a hunk, but he had narrow shoulders and often slumped. He should have lifted weights, or did something to develop his upper body muscles.

I saw something recently by a man who claimed he was communicating with Denise Naslund's spirit, and we had someone like that who posted on this site once. I never hear of anyone claiming to communicate with the spirits of the other women he killed, what is it about Denise Naslund that attracts the crazies?

I never hear of anyone claiming to communicate with the spirits of the other women he killed, what is it about Denise Naslund that attracts the crazies? I think it's because her mother, Eleanor Rose, was so vocal about her daughter's murder. She would talk to any reporter who contacted her, so more people are familiar with the names Denise Naslund and Eleanor Rose. No one even knows the names of the mothers of any of the other victims.
