Ghost Hunter Stabs Himself at Villisca Axe Murder House
VILLISCA, Iowa – The Villisca Axe Murder House was the scene of a stabbing in the early morning hours of Halloween (Friday, October 31). According to KCCI, a Wisconsin man stabbed himself outside the home, which many believe is haunted. Robert Laursen, Jr., of Rhinelander, Wisconsin, was at the house on a paranormal investigation of sorts when things went awry. A police investigation is currently underway and the man’s motive is unknown at this time. Emergency crews were called to the house after midnight Friday morning. Laursen was found in critical condition and was transported to Creighton Medical Center in Omaha by helicopter. Police will be speaking with him once he is well enough to discuss what happened.
In June 1906, an axe attack in the home left four members of the Moore family and two visiting children dead. Those killed during the gruesome bloodbath were Josiah B. Moore (age 43), his wife Sarah (39) and their children: Herman (11), Katherine (10), Arthur (7) and Paul (5). Also killed were Lena and Ina Mae Stilliinger, ages 12 and 8, respectively, who were spending the night with Katherine.
The house is said to be haunted and has become a popular destination for ghost hunters, many of whom claim to have experienced paranormal encounters in the old home. According to the Villisca Axe Murder House website, people can “rent” the house for one night for $428 (the price is for one to six guests). Each additional night will cost a visitor around $80. Many paranormal experts who have stayed in the house claim to have evidence of paranormal activity, which makes the home a sought after “bucket list” trip for those who are interested in that sort of thing. Visits by paranormal investigators have resulted in audio, video and photographic proof of paranormal activity. Tours have been cut short by children’s voices, falling lamps, moving ladders and flying objects. Psychics have confirmed the presence of spirits dwelling in the home and many report communications with those spirits. While tours have taken place seven nights a week at the home for many years, this is the first time someone has actually been harmed during a visit.
