I apologize for waiting so long to report on the Mothman Festival. My sister, Samantha, and her two kids, she has a daughter, Abby, who is 10, and a son, Luke, who is 7, went to the Mothman Festival and we stayed at the Lowe Hotel, a haunted hotel in downtown Point Pleasant. The rooms that we had were small and the people who run the hotel didn't seem to be all that interested in what they're doing, but it was OK. We were on the 3rd floor and the room Samantha and Abby stayed in was small and it had twin beds pushed together to make a king sized bed. Luke and I had two beds in our room, but it was also very small. The bathroom sinks are in the bedrooms instead of the bathrooms. The furniture doesn't match and it looks like they got it at garage sales and used furniture stores. The ghosts are a woman who dances in her nightgown, a child riding a tricycle up and down the halls on the 2nd floor, the ghost of a maid that you can hear whistling on the 3rd floor, a man with a beard who haunts room number 314, ghostly music coming from the 4th floor that used to be a ballroom, and a rocking chair that rocks by itself on the 4th floor. The kids swore that they heard the sound of someone riding a tricycle in the hall, but I didn't hear anything. There's a café, the Red Parrot, downstairs and the food was OK.
There were a lot of interesting events and the streets had been closed off to traffic and there were all these booths and stalls where you could buy all kinds of things. We went to the Mothman Museum, which is interesting, and on a Mothman tour of the places where people saw the Mothman. People who actually saw the Mothman gave talks about what they had seen and there was also a great presentation on other Mothman type figures that have been seen in other places. We also went to the Silver Bridge Memorial where the names of the 46 people killed when the bridge collapsed are carved on bricks. There was also a talk on Bigfoot that I went to while Samantha and the kids went to some of the other events. Some of it was tacky, but if you're interested in the Mothman, I recommend going to the festival. It's different actually being there where it all happened and just reading about it. Point Pleasant was kind of spooky at night, even with a lot of people around.
