Olson Murder Unsolved One Year Later
NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Detectives continue their search for the gunman who shot and killed North Little Rock mother Samantha Olson, driving with her baby girl in the back seat. The case is still being investigated one year later.
"It's tough, it's been a tough year and we still haven't gotten to the bottom of this," says Detective Gary Jones.
It happened Wednesday, August 14, 2013, in broad daylight at the busy intersection of JFK and McCain Boulevard. Police say a gunman going west fired across the lanes as Samantha Olson drove east with her infant daughter in the car. Olson's car stopped and the search for her killer ensued.
One year later police are still chasing leads, but don't have any suspects. "It's tough, really tough. I wish we really had more," says Jones.
Police received hundreds of tips and Jones tracked down hundreds of trucks matching the suspect's. He contacted owners of all of the maroon Ford F-150 super cabs in Pulaski county.
"I want to be able to tell her husband and baby we have this solved and we've made an arrest in this case," says Jones.
Jones says calls started dwindling but still come in occasionally. "It's sad this young girl's not going to grow up with her mother, it's really sad every time I see it.” He keeps Olson's license tucked in the case file police hope will lead to her killer.
Police still believe this was a random shooting. There is a $15,000 reward out for information leading to Samantha Olson's killer. The family is holding a vigil Thursday night at 7:30.
