I know this is an old movie, but I just bought the DVD at a yard sale and wondered what others think of it. I thought it was excellent, at least the first part was. It sort of fizzled toward the end. But my question is about Thomas Neill Cream - Was he ever really a strong suspect as Jack the Ripper?

I know this is an old movie, but I just bought the DVD at a yard sale and wondered what others think of it. I thought it was excellent, at least the first part was. It sort of fizzled toward the end. But my question is about Thomas Neill Cream - Was he ever really a strong suspect as Jack the Ripper? Someone said that as Cream was being hanged at Newgate Prison in London for poisoning several people, some of which were prostitutes, his last words were "I am Jack the ...." The trap door opened before he could finish the sentence, whatever it was. Cream was a poisoner, not a ripper and during the time the Ripper murders were taking place, he was in prison. Whoever it was who claimed he was Jack the Ripper said that he could have bribed guards and left prison during the time the murders were taking place, but he was in prison in the United States, so it would have been hard for him to have popped over to England and murdered five hookers and then returned to the US without anyone knowing about it.
