Fourth Clue: bicycle _______
Third Clue: borough _______
Second Clue: New Frontier _______
First Clue: April 25 _______
Following is the primary clue for Mystery Location No. 121:
The temperature reached 64° that cool, pleasant day and though there was some anxiety about a faraway enemy, no one had an inkling that before darkness fell, tragedy would strike close to home. Of course, this isn’t entirely true, one person did know: An individual possessed of a depraved indifference to all that is holy.
Each day, a new clue will be posted until someone names the location, providing the street address, city and state (or province/country if located outside the US) and an explanation as to how each clue applies to the location. If no one correctly names the location, the contest will end at midnight (Eastern time), Saturday, October 13, 2018. Please note, the contest ends at midnight in the Eastern Time Zone. If you live in a different time zone, please make adjustments so you will know what time it ends where you are.
You may discuss the location with other members by posting your comments using the “reply” option, but please do not attempt to name the location until you are absolutely certain of your answer and able to post the street address, city, state, etc., along with a photo, or link to a photo, of the Location.
For those of you who remember our old Mystery Locations contest, the point system has changed. Now, if you name the location on the first day, i.e., Sunday, before midnight (ET), you will receive 7 points. Thereafter, the points will depend on the number of clues that have been provided when you name the Location as indicated below. If you name the Location after the first clue, you will receive 6 points, etc., as indicated below. However, after the Sixth (last clue) is provided on Saturday, you must name the location before midnight (EST) Saturday night.
Sunday (or before First Clue is provided) - 7 points First Clue (Monday) - 6 points Second Clue (Tuesday) - 5 points Third Clue (Wednesday) - 4 points Fourth Clue (Thursday) - 3 points Fifth Clue (Friday) - 2 points Sixth Clue (Saturday before midnight) - 1 point
If you wish, you may collaborate with another member and if the two of you win, points will be divided between the two of you.
This contest is meant to be fun, so, as before, we ask that you conduct yourself accordingly. To prevent any accusations of favoritism, Joanna has been advised of the name and address of the Location and will not be participating in this week’s contest.

The last time we had one about something holy, it turned out to be a house where one of the BTK killings happened.

411 Elm St. Dallas, Texas USA
Thursday April 25, 1946, JFK officially announced he was running for the 11th Congressional District in Massachusetts.
The New Frontier was the phrase he used at his acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention in 1960. It became the Democratic slogan for the campaign and then the label for his domestic and foreign policy.
JFK Airport is in the borough of Queens in New York.

Did you even bother to read the instructions or the primary clue? Why were people anxious about a faraway enemy? What was the tragedy that struck close to home? And who had a depraved indifference to all that is holy?

After the "bicycle" clue, this one was easy. This is St. Mark's Catholic Church, 1025 Radcliffe St., in the borough of Bristol, Pennsylvania. On October 22, 1962, a cool, pleasant day, Carol Ann Dougherty, age 9, left home to return some library books. When she wasn't home by 4:30, her mother got worried and went out looking for her. The little girl's bicycle was in front of St. Mark's Church and her mother checked the church, but didn't find her. When her husband got home, he went to the church and found Carol Ann in the choir loft. She was dead, her pants were pulled down to her ankles and she had been raped. There were several suspects, including a priest, but the killer was probably a man named William Schrader, who was 24 at the time. He had a criminal record and had served time in prison. He lived near the church and someone saw him outside the church around 4:30 that afternoon. He also lied when questioned by police. But there was never enough evidence to charge him and most people today want to believe it was the priest who killed her. All the suspects are now dead.
Carol Ann Dougherty was the first of several little girls who were murdered or went missing in Pennsylvania and New York during the '60s.
John F. Kennedy was the president in 1962 and his administration was known as the New Frontier, because he used that term in his acceptance speech. The Cuban Missile Crisis occurred in October and November of 1962, so on October 22, people would have been anxious about the Soviet Union, a "faraway enemy."
April 25 is the feast day of St. Mark the Evangelist and St. Mark's Church was named in his honor.

I had Cuba right. “New Frontier” clue was correct. Assassination wasn’t a tragedy that struck “close to home” for people? All that some think is holy? Sacrosanct? JFK was also a bike enthusiast. I would have guessed I was wrong. Thanks for mentioning it was easy after that clue. Good work, Catherine.

I looked at the two famous belfry murders and checked for a matching saints day. The SF Murderer was from Toronto born on April 24.

Congratulations, Catherine.
After "New Frontier," I felt that the "faraway enemy" probably meant the Cuban Missile Crisis, but I was looking for something that happened in New York City because of the "borough" clue.
I checked the map and saw that it's more than 200 miles from Bristol to Elmira, N.Y., but I can't help wondering if maybe Mary Theresa Simpson whatliesbeyond.boards.net/thread/1341/unsolved-1964-murder-theresa-simpson was killed by the same man. Like Catherine, I don't believe that the priest did it either.
