Halloween Photo Contest 2018!
This year’s Halloween Photo Contest begins today (October 1). All you have to do is find and submit a photo of an extant (currently standing) residential house (i.e., built as a single-family dwelling) – preferably from the Victorian and Edwardian eras (1840-1910). Architectural styles include Queen Anne, Second Empire, Gothic Revival, Eastlake, French Renaissance, Folk Victorian, Greek Revival, Italianate, Richardsonian Romanesque. etc. Most importantly, the structure should have unusual features, e.g., something that makes it “stand out” from other houses of its type and appear somewhat spooky – see examples below. You are not required to provide the street address of your submission, but you must provide the name of the city and state/province (or city and country if not located in the U.S. or Canada) where it is located. Please note: the photo must be a photograph of the house, not a painting or drawing. Photos of ancient castles, churches, government buildings, hotels, etc., or houses no longer in existence, will not be accepted.
You may submit your photo via PM (by sending the photo itself or a link to such photo) to either Joanna or me and we will post them. This way, when we vote, no one will know who submitted which photo. The deadline for submissions is midnight (EDT) Thursday, October 25. Voting will begin Friday, October 26, so that we’ll have a winner in time for Halloween. The winner will be allowed to choose a book or DVD from our Prize List: whatliesbeyond.boards.net/thread/5375/mystery-locations-prize-list-additions
If you have any questions or comments, please use the “reply” option.
Here are two examples: The top house, located in Scituate, Massachusetts, starred as the “house” in the movie The House by the Cemetery. The other is the Edwards House in Redlands, California.
