Did Mummy of 300-Year-Old Child Saint Blink Her Eyes?
The story of Santa Inocencia, whose name translates to St. Innocent, is a chilling one. Three hundred years ago, legend has it that a young Roman girl named Inocencia was forbidden to attend the Catholic church by her father, who said Catholicism was “nonsense.”
Inocencia, however, was devout and felt in her heart Catholicism was the true path to salvation. One day, she met a nun who invited her to take classes in Catholicism. Inocencia was thrilled when she was invited to receive Holy Communion and did so without telling her father. She arrived at the cathedral wearing a white dress given her by the nun. Later that day, Inocencia returned home to tell her father the exciting news, hoping he would support her decision. Furious, the man plunged a knife into the child’s chest, killing her. Inocencia’s murder was considered a persecution against the Catholic faith. The child was buried in the Santa Ciriaca cemetery in Rome.
In 1786, her body was exhumed and acquired by a wealthy priest, who brought Inocencia’s remains to the Cathedral of Guadalajara in Mexico. They were certified a relic and symbolized the love of the Eucharist. Santa Inocencia’s corpse has been preserved in wax and placed under glass. She is still dressed in her white ceremonial gown. Beneath her corpse is a plaque recounting her fascinating story.
Tourists flock to see Santa Inocencia’s body and pay homage to the “bride dressed for eternity.” It is believed if “marriageable women” come and read their prayers before the “Holy Innocence,” they will soon meet and marry the loves of their lives.
In a mystifying viral video, a tourist claims to have caught Santa Inocencia looking straight into the camera and blinking her eyes. The short clip – which contends the child has come “back from the dead” – has gone massively viral with more than 800,000 YouTube views.
While some viewers believe it is a haunting display of paranormal activity, others say it’s all a cleverly designed hoax. One commenter wrote: “If you zoom in you can see he edited the image, the eyes are fake.” Another said, “Yes, it looks like her eyes open towards the end of the video but how can it be possible?”
