I've been interested in the paranormal since I was a young child and I'm now in my 70s. Ghosts seldom appear as three-dimensional, but occasionally they do. I would like to know if others have seen three-dimensional ghosts, that is, apparitions that looked so much like actual people that you thought they were real. I would also like to know if anyone has ever actually talked with a spirit and believed they were talking with an actual person until they seemingly vanished. Following is my own experience with two ghosts that I and three other people all thought were real until they disappeared:
On September 22, 1996, three neighbors and I were at the fish pond of the apartment community where I lived at that time, which was well-known to be haunted, and a woman wearing a pants outfit and a boy of around 8 or 10, who was wearing a tee-shirt tucked in khaki shorts just seemed to appear. We thought that they had come from around the corner where there were a lot of tall oleander bushes and crape myrtle trees and we talked with them a little about the fish and then they walked around a big oak tree and just seemed to disappear. We all thought that they were visiting someone who lived there.
Then we got to talking about how strange they were. The woman was wearing what the others said was a batik top and bell bottom pants that hadn't been in style since the '60s. The boy's tee-shirt had a caricature and the words "Herman's Hermits" on the front which was an old '60s band. Some of the others also said that no kid today would have had his tee-shirt tucked into his shorts and he was wearing a belt. We started asking around and doing some more research on the place, which was built in the early '60s, and found out that in the late '60s, the daughter and grandson of a couple who was living in one of the apartments near the fish pond came to visit one summer and on the way home, they were both killed in a car accident. Yet another neighbor who was on her balcony near the fish pond that day also saw the woman and boy and said that there was only one apartment that they could have gone into because she never saw them again after they went behind the oak tree. We knew the woman who lived in that apartment and she said that she didn't have any visitors that day and that she had never had a visit from a woman and boy like the ones we saw.

I've never personally seen a 3-dimensional ghost, but I know people who have.

When my grandmother was young, she and another girl saw a woman in the church cemetery that looked completely real. They didn't realize that she was a ghost until a few days later when a woman who had lived in Texas for many years was brought back home to Tennessee for burial. When they saw a photo of her when she was younger in the newspaper, they realized that was the woman they had seen in the cemetery.

I've been a paranormal investigator for over 10 years, and I've never seen a 3-dimensional ghost. I can't remember anyone saying that they've seen an apparition that looks like a real person for more than a few seconds before they vanish. I've never known anyone who talked with a ghost that they thought was a real person. If ghosts can talk like real people, what is it that we pick up on EVP?

EVP is auditory pareidolia, a psychological phenomenon in which the mind perceives a familiar pattern where none exists.

On those ghost hunter shows, they will play EVP and swear that you're going to hear a ghost say something, but it ALWAYS sounds like grunts and scrapes to me.

Jane I stumbled over this website and am new. You asked me a question a few days ago but I mistook it from another person and addressed them with the answer. In reply to this story I saw a 3-dimensional entity in 1996 also. I shared the experience in my story titled "What the Hell." - equabletramp743

If ghosts are able to appear as real life people, then what are the misty forms, shadows and other things that people generally believe are ghosts?

Just like people, ghosts are as different from each other as I am from you. They have different abilities. Some have the ability to show themselves as a mist, orbs, shadows, and full body apparitions. Sometimes the longer one has been a ghost, the stronger they can become. Ghosts also will not show themselves if they are afraid or juśt want to be left alone.

Surely you don't believe "orbs," which are nothing more than light refractions, are ghosts.

Because people have seen three-dimensional ghosts, then that means they have the ability to appear in their human form. Has it ever occurred to any of you paranormal investigators that the other things you identify as ghosts may be not be ghosts?

I remember y'all talking about this on the England trip and I think it's one of the most interesting ghost sightings that I've ever heard or even read about because of the number of witnesses. Ghosts almost never interact with people that way. Can you remember if there was anything unusual leading up to the encounter?

No, there wasn't anything unusual leading up to the encounter, but there was something else unusual that I didn't include in my narration. When we were talking with the woman and boy, another resident and someone visiting her were at the rear of the courtyard and later on, we asked the resident if she had seen where the woman and boy had gone and she swore she hadn't seen a child at the fish pond, but only the four of us who lived there, which means she didn't see the woman either.

In Appalachia where I live, there are lots of stories of people interacting with ghosts, but there's no way to tell if they really happened or if they're just old legends passed down from one generation to the next.

I’m confused. By three-dimensional, do you mean a ghost that actually has substance like a human being or one that simply “looks” three-dimensional?
