For Sale: Infamous Murder House Shuttered for More Than 50 Years
Southern California’s cutthroat real estate market has a famous new listing – the Murder House of Los Feliz located at 2475 Glendower Place. The reportedly haunted mansion that’s been frozen in time since a shocking 1959 murder-suicide is on the block for a staggering $2.75 million, according to luxury real estate firm Berkshire Hathaway Home Services. Perched on a well-heeled hill in the shadow of Griffith Park, the dilapidated dwelling is where New York-born Dr. Harold Perelson, 50, bludgeoned his sleeping 42-year-old wife Lillian to death with a ball peen hammer Dec. 6, 1959. He also viciously attacked his 18-year-old daughter Judye, who managed to escape, and then told his younger daughter Debbie, 11, that the whole scene was a “nightmare” before he killed himself with a cocktail of drugs that included Nembutal.
Former neighbor Cheri Lewis was about 12-years-old at the time of the slaying and said she was able to walk through the house in recent years when some painters were working on the property. She confirmed it had been sold not long after the murder-suicide, but said the couple who purchased it owned lots of property and simply left it uninhabited for decades. “About 10 years ago, we went into Judye’s old room and the nameplate on the light switch cover was still there with her name on it,” Lewis, now a dentist in Beverly Hills, told the Daily News.
She recalled seeing the Perelson family’s furniture still in the house under protective coverings and boxes of women’s shoes that she believed belonged to Judye. “I remember,” Lewis said, referring to the noise that woke her up the night of the doctor’s bloody rampage. “She was screaming. At first I thought it was a wild animal, but then it was something like, ‘Don’t kill me!’ It was like a horror movie.”
Lewis said the family had been struggling financially and Dr. Perelson apparently tried to kill himself during a hospital stay prior to the bloodbath, at least according to neighborhood gossip. “We were told he tried to commit suicide in a psych ward. He had a lot of issues. There was talk that either the wife or the doctors he worked with were going to have him committed,” she recalled. “This may have been the trigger.”
Lewis said she never saw the Christmas tree and wrapped presents from 1959 that other neighbors and thrill-seekers reported seeing through windows during unauthorized visits to the house over the years.
The creepy crib finally went on the market because the couple who purchased it after the murder – Emily and Julian Enriquez – left it to their son, Rudy, and he recently died.
The online listing indicates it’s a probate sale and includes rare interior photos that offer the first public glimpses inside in half a century. The pictures show empty rooms stripped of any personal possessions. A large wall mural in one room showing a bird resting on a tree is the only evidence of a former tenant’s personal touch.
The house was the subject of a lengthy article by Jeff Maysh on Medium.com that reportedly led to a script deal for Joshua Malkin, the screenwriter of the 2009 horror flick Cabin Fever 2. The film is in development at The Coalition Group, according to a report last October on TheWrap.com.
Lewis said she believes the price tag is based on the property’s luxury location, not the creepy dwelling. “It’s probably a tear-down,” she told The News. Sources: Nancy Dillon, The New York Daily News, March 31, 2016, and Trulia.

I remember this one from the Mystery Location game I remember it too. I really enjoyed the Mystery Location game. It's too bad that some people had to cheat and ruin things for everyone else.

I remember it too. I really enjoyed the Mystery Location game. It's too bad that some people had to cheat and ruin things for everyone else. It's so easy for cheaters to identify photos that I know we can't revive the Mystery Locations like they were, but maybe we could have some other kind of Mystery Location. Maybe instead of posting a picture, it could be reversed and Lee could post some information about the location and we could try to find and post a photo of the location and the address. Addresses where murders happened are sometimes very hard to find.

We could try something like that, but we'll have to figure out how we're going to do it, set down some rules, etc. By providing clues and requiring those playing the game to identify the event, then locate a photo of the location, I can't see how there would be any way to cheat.

You could give a synopsis of whatever happened, without names of people, cities or states, and then give an additional clue each day until someone found a photo and the address of the location. It would be just like the old game, but reversed.

I was pretty good at the Mystery Locations. I think that a reversal of the order, requiring people to find the photo and address of a location, would be even more interesting than identifying a photo.. It would require excellent research skills and those inclined to cheat would be out of luck. Lee could provide the bare basics of a murder, haunting, or whatever, and then post a new clue every day until someone came up with the correct photo and address. I know that some people (like Maddie) have problems posting photos, but those who don't know how to post photos, could just provide a link to the photo and Lee could post it for them. When can we start?

I enjoyed the mystery locations after someone else was provided the answer, so that people like the woman who insisted that a house built in the 17th century was a wedding cake house wouldn't start an argument. I'm a senior citizen and even I know better than to think that if I Google a string of words and they all come up on a site, it doesn't mean the words are all related. You have to actually go to the site and then do a search for each individual word or term to see if they are related, or if they reference two or more different things.
I'm not very good with murders, but if the clues are good, I think that I will have as much chance of finding a photo and address as anyone else. I'm looking forward to it.

The home looks nice from the outside, but I saw interior pictures and it would need a lot of work, and considering the price tag already, it seems like it'd be more trouble than it's worth.
As to the mystery locations, I'd be open to this new format. It might make things a bit more challenging but that's not a bad thing!

I wasn't good at naming them the old way and I probably won't be able to name them this way either, but I really liked trying to find the Mystery Locations. I think that we should try it the new way.

So when are the new Murder Locations going to start?
I thought that they might start tomorrow, but Lee hasn't posted anything. I hope we do have them. I liked the Mystery Locations.
Lee, if you need any help, please ask. I guess you'll need to have a different person every week who knows the answer like you did before, to keep people like that nasty woman in the old group from accusing you of changing the answer. I'm willing to take a turn every month.

I'll try to start the new Mystery Locations next Sunday (May 8). I still haven't decided exactly what to do because using clues only, instead of photos, is going to be much more complicated.

I helped when we had the Mystery locations in the old group and I'm willing to help again. I don't see any other way to do it than with clues everyday. Maybe you could give something like a summary the first day, then give another clue everyday.
