The Witch TrailerWe can all agree that it probably sucked to live in 17th century New England. What with the lack of advanced medicine, education and luxuries like plumbing, electricity and Internet memes, things must have really been rough. Honestly, the only thing that could drop the quality of life any farther would be witches. In this trailer for The Witch – a movie that looks absolutely horrifying – we don't know if witches are real. We see a girl milking blood out of a goat. We see a crazed man with an axe. We see a child talking to a goat. All of these things – because if you remember, these people are living in cold, dark, wood shacks with little to no education – could very likely point to the presence of witches. It's enough to make villagers turn on each other. It's enough to make you wonder if these witches are actually causing bad things to happen. It's enough to scare the living shit out of you. But for all the goat blood, children's whispers and foggy woods in this trailer for The Witch, the most terrifying thing here is the tension. Like The Descent made claustrophobia more horrific than any crazed cave creatures, the true villain in The Witch might be our own paranoia.
