For some reason, I was thinking about the anonymous letter accusing a police officer of killing Beth Barr and if there's any truth to it and the officer who killed her was involved in the investigation, that could be the reason the investigations into these three murders seem to have been botched by the police. A single officer can turn in a false report about something, lose evidence or fail to investigate a lead and no one would suspect anything.

It's possible for a law enforcement officer to tamper with evidence or cover up evidence even today and it was even easier back then. It's possible that a rogue officer killed all 3 victims, but after more than 40 years, without DNA evidence linking him to at least one of the murders, I don't see how it could ever be proved.

Whoever is in charge of these cases now needs to show a photo lineup that includes a photo of that police officer to the woman who saw the man in the rental car at the bus stop.

I emailed a link to this article to a friend of mine and she was quick to blame Stephanie Boller's mother because she allowed her child to walk to a neighbor's house alone. I told her that if a man sets out to snatch a child, he's going to find one, no matter how closely parents watch their children. In the case of Polly Klass, she was taken from her parents' home during a slumber party. Ann Marie Burr, who lived in Tacoma, where I live and lived at that time, was taken from her home on a dark, stormy night. I'm not saying people shouldn't watch their children closely, but things can happen no matter how closely you watch them. When I was a kid, my parents thought nothing of allowing us to walk to the homes of nearby friends alone, and our friends walked to our home alone.

You're right, you can't prevent everything, no matter how closely you watch kids. Also, if you don't give them a little freedom, they'll become too dependent and won't be able to make reasonable decisions on their own. I think the reason a lot of children today aren't capable of making the right decision is because their parents watch them too closely. Of course, kids don't walk to anyone's house these days, they just call or text on their cell phones, which is another reason they lack decision-making skills.

What happens to evidence in cases like this? Didn't they collect anything that could be DNA tested?

What happens to evidence in cases like this? Didn't they collect anything that could be DNA tested? There were so many mistakes made in this investigation, like not following up with the car rental company, that I doubt there was anything collected that could be DNA tested.
