Dead Woman Instigated Road Rage Shooting
LAS VEGAS – Police say the woman killed in a road rage shooting went home first before heading back out to find the suspect. Metro Police held a news conference Tuesday to go over the timeline that led to the February 12 shooting in a northwest neighborhood that resulted in the death of 44-year-old Tammy Meyers (above). According to police, Meyers had been teaching her daughter to drive. As the two were driving home, a car sped up behind them. The teen, who was a passenger, reached over and honked the horn. The driver of the silver sedan pulled in front of the Meyers' car and got out of the car to confront Tammy. Police said, there was an exchange of words that frightened Meyers which prompted them to drive to their home.
Meyers asked her daughter to go into the house and get her 22-year-old son to come outside. Meyers' son brought a gun, police said. The two, according to police, drove around to find the driver of the silver sedan, and they were successful. Police said, the driver in the silver sedan followed Meyers and her son to their house. It was at this point the shooting occurred. Meyers, the mother of four, was struck in the head.
"Unfortunately, I can't ask Tammy what was in her mind at the time of her actions. What I can say is this, that at this point in time, Tammy is a victim, okay? This family right now is in mourning. They are very distraught over what has occurred. It's our job and it's our obligation as a community and a law enforcement organization to ensure that everyone is safe regardless of what our personal opinions are on certain people's actions," said Metro Lt. Ray Steiber.
Police said they have not identified any suspect or suspects in this case. A sketch was released over the weekend. The driver is described as a white man, between 20 to 30 years old and 6-feet tall.
