In a lot of ways, Colonel Parker did Elvis more harm than good. He wouldn't allow him to make anything but mindless, third-rate movies and he was probably taking more than half his earnings for himself. Elvis had a lot of hangers-on that he didn't need.

I recall reading somewhere that at one time, Col. Parker owed $30 million in gambling debts to the Hilton in Las Vegas where Elvis performed. I doubt if he would have been allowed to run up that amount if he hadn't been on Elvis's payroll.
Priscilla said recently that Elvis was tired of the girly beach movies and wanted to do serious films, but the Colonel wouldn't allow it, which I don't understand. Elvis was a grown man and could make his own decisions, so why did he allow that old man to push him around like that?

Yesterday would have been Elvis's 88th birthday and there was hardly any mention of it in the news, I suppose because most of his fans are now dead, too. Even if he didn't die in 1977 like some people believe, he'd probably be dead by now.

Lisa Marie Presley died yesterday at the age of 54. The news reports say she had a heart attack, but unless she had some kind of congenital heart defect, 54 is very young for a woman to die of a heart attack. I can't help wondering if drugs were involved. After all, she admitted to being addicted to cocaine at one time.

But her death is more likely genetic, something she inherited from Elvis that he inherited from Gladys Presley.

There's a book called Elvis: Destined to Die Young that I checked out at the library that says Gladys Presley's side of the family carried some kind of genetic heart defect and because her mother and father were first cousins, it was passed to their children and grandchildren. I think both of her parents and most of her brothers and sisters died in their 40s and 50s.

Has anyone watched "The Seven Ages of Elvis" on PBS and noticed where they're trying to make him into something he wasn't? In the show, they say he was a great supporter of Martin Luther King Jr. and that's not true. His family members and others close to him said that he thought King was a communist and Elvis hated communists.

One woman spoke on camera and alleged that when Martin Luther King Jr. was shot in Memphis, Elvis said something to her about "MLK," but King was shot in 1968 and he wasn't referred to as "MLK" until the early 1980s, so there's no way Elvis would have called him MLK. Obviously, the producers of this show decided to reinvent Elvis to conform to the Woke beliefs of today's misguided liberals. Then they claimed he sang the song "If I Can Dream" as a tribute to King, and that was a lie, too. He recorded the song months before the 1968 Comeback Special and it was substituted for "I'll Be Home for Christmas." The Colonel said the song didn't exactly fit in with the program, but Elvis said he'd like to try it. He didn't say anything about a tribute to anyone. As for the song being similar to King's "I have a dream" speech, anyone who has ever thoroughly checked King's background knows that he stole it from a speech given by the Reverend Archibald Carey at the 1952 Republican National Convention. He plagiarized the speech just like he plagiarized his doctoral dissertation at Boston University.

She said that he was watching MLK's funeral on TV -- which I seriously doubt because he was making a movie at that time -- and she just looked at him and said "Satnin,'" which she then said was what he called his mother. He did call his mother that, but it was also what Gladys called him and what it meant was that a person had smooth skin like satin. He also called Priscilla and at least 2 of his girlfriends, Dixie Locke Emmons and June Juanico, Satnin.' It was something he called women, so why would Priscilla have said it when he was watching MLK's funeral? Nothing she said made any sense. All the way through the show, it was sort of obvious that they were trying to turn him into this great civil rights supporter who was super concerned about racial equality and that's just not who he was.

Do a lot of people still go to Memphis on the day Elvis died? Memphis has an entire week, called "Elvis Week," in August every year. This year it's August 9-17.

I've been to Graceland a few times and I've always found it creepy. Some houses when you go inside seem happy but Graceland is sad, like the inside of a tomb.

Graceland Up for Auction, Estate Seeks Injunctive Relief Graceland’s future is uncertain after a legal notice issued earlier this month indicated the home of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll was in foreclosure and would be publicly auctioned to the highest bidder.
The notice alleges Lisa Marie Presley, who died unexpectedly in January 2023, signed a Deed of Trust in 2018 to secure a $3.8 million loan from Naussany Investments and Private Lending, using Graceland as collateral. Unfortunately, according to Naussany, at the time of her untimely death, she still owed the money.
Family members dispute the company’s claim, alleging it is fraudulent, and yesterday (May 20), Riley Keough, Lisa Marie’s daughter and sole heir to the property, secured a temporary restraining order. “Elvis Presley Enterprises can confirm that these claims are fraudulent. There is no foreclosure sale. Simply put, the counter lawsuit has been filed to stop the fraud,” a Graceland spokesperson said in an official statement.
In her 60-page Verified Complaint for Declaratory Judgment and Injunctive Relief Including a Temporary Restraining Order filed in the Chancery Court of Shelby County, Tennessee, Keough claims, among other allegations, that Naussany Investments is not a real entity.
Naussany originally filed suit in November 2023, alleging Lisa Marie had been required to repay the entire sum she borrowed by May 2022. At that time, the company offered to drop the lawsuit if the estate paid 75 percent ($2.85 million) of the loan within 45 days. If Riley Keough knew about the lawsuit in November, why did she wait until a notice of sale was filed to try to do something about it?

If Riley Keough knew about the lawsuit in November, why did she wait until a notice of sale was filed to try to do something about it? I wonder why Riley Keough is saying that the company that threatened to sell Graceland at auction isn't a real company. There's a lot of real estate fraud going on now. I've seen where people have had their homes sold and they didn't know anything about it until the new owners showed up at the door. It's hard to believe something like that would happen to a place as famous as Graceland, but you never know.
