If the blogger just posted what had been told to him and what he got from reports on the case, I don't see how he could be guilty of defamation. It makes me think the ones who filed the lawsuit might be guilty and just trying to hide their guilt.

So does this mean that people should be careful about what they say on the internet?

People can say anything that they want to as long as it's their opinion. I don't think that this blogger has anything to worry about.

I want to just add its important to note theat the "blogger" actually has never voiced his opinion about the case, he simply intervidwed the sister and two former cops that wanted to share what their exeriences were. Both former cops agreed to take polygraph tests . Neither had any crimnal records or cases of fraud in their past that indicate fraud or a hoax. Carroll is interested in giving a voice and pushing the case. When he started this one of the officers now a deputy at the Henry county Sheriff's dept came to his farm threatened him and told him to back off. Carroll taped this conversation and for those that have heard the tape Cauthen definitely is issuing some sort of weird veiled threat. WHY is what I dont get it seems like anyone would want these murders solved. On that tape Carroll warns Cauthen and you here him then admit he was a suspect and had his DNA tested but tells Carroll he did not kill them but wont say what he knows. Now the "blogger" Carroll actually works as photojournalist for RT News and Ruptly in Israel occasionally, they just use "blogger" to try to discredit him. A few days ago with the federal court's permisson published over 6 hours of tapes that have another former policeman who spent years aalong with the late Dothan attorney Brian Dowling investigating this case. All of this is very bad news for the Ozark Police Department Its pretty obvious to me he is fighting against those who want this to remain covered up. I highly suggest anyone interested in this case listen to what his investigation revealed. henryreport.com/blog/2016/10/29/former-dothan-police-officer-lies-to-federal-court-about-beasley-hawlett-murders/

Murder site memorial Beasley, Hawlett Murders Remain Unsolved 18 Years LaterDOTHAN, Ala. – Northview seniors J.B. Beasley and Tracie Hawlett were found dead in the trunk of Beasley’s car in Ozark on Monday, Aug. 1, 1999. The two girls had planned to attend a party between Midland City and Headland. They never arrived at the party, and 18 years later, family, friends and members of the community are still praying for justice to be served.
“There is not a day that goes by I don’t think about J.B.,” said Patti Simpson, a friend of the teen. “She was full of energy and just a joy to be around. She was an amazing, well-mannered girl, who had a passion for dance. I was proud to have her not only live with me and my husband, but it was also a joy to be her dance instructor.” Simpson and many others are praying the killer or killers will answer for the crime committed. “These two girls did not deserve this at all,” Simpson added. “They had their whole life in front of them and it was taken away. They deserve justice.”
According to Carol Roberts, Tracie’s mother, rumors and suggestions have played a large role in the murder case. “You can’t always believe what you hear,” she said. “Over the years, it has been said the girls were headed to a field party. No they were not. They were headed to a birthday party for J.B. There have been rumors on this person may have done it, or that person may have done it. There are just so many questions that have not been answered. Why would someone do this? Who would do this? We may never know the answers to these questions. The one, or the ones, responsible for Tracie and J.B.’s death may never be caught, but I pray every day that whoever is responsible is caught. I used to pray that whoever done this would never sleep another night until they confessed. I wanted that person to have sleepless nights. Lord knows I have had plenty.”
Although Roberts hopes and prays for justice for her daughter, over the years she has to accept that Tracie is still spiritually with her. “I take comfort in the fact knowing the last thing my daughter had to say to me was ‘I love you’,” Roberts revealed. “So many times those words are not the last words heard. I have had to face the fact my daughter’s murder may never be solved. But, while facing that fact, I have seen and realized just what a gift I did have by the Lord giving me Tracie. She wasn’t with me as long as I would have wanted her to be. But the years I did have her, she was my joy. I lost Tracie’s father when she was four and I thought that was the most horrible thing I would ever have to go through. I was wrong. When I lost my daughter, that was the worst thing I could go through.” The grief-stricken mother pleads with the individual or individuals responsible for the death of the girls, saying, “These girls have actually been dead longer than they were alive. I know someone knows something and I hope and pray someone will come forth and let these two young girls rest. Let us put this to rest. Please, let them find rest. I ask you to please come forth.”
Former Ozark Police Chief Tony Spivey worked the case from the day the bodies were found until he retired in 2015. “I think about this case constantly,” he admitted. “The fact I could not provide answers or provide justice gets to me. Solving this case is something I hoped would happen before I retired, but it did not work out that way. I know hundreds if not thousands of man-hours were used tracking down leads and investigating this case. I also know the police department is still working on this case, and I pray it gets solved. I hope and pray the answers will be found and justice will be served. I hope sooner than later for the families involved. All murder cases are horrible, but when it involves two young girls just going into the prime of their life, well, it’s heartbreaking.”
Following Spivey’s retirement, Marlos Walker became chief of the Ozark Police Department. “We have this case assigned to investigators,” he said. “The investigators are constantly re-looking at the evidence retrieved, checking on old leads and new leads. It is a constant case review. When I became chief, we had four cold case files, we have solved two out of the four, and I strongly believe this case will be the next case to be solved. I want everyone involved to know, we are working this case, we are doing everything we can to solve this case.”
Like Carol Roberts, Walker believes there is more information about the case. “Listen, I know someone out here knows something, and it will come out,” he continued. “All it will take is for one person to hear one thing, and it will all come out, and that will happen. I encourage anyone with any information regarding this case to call. That caller can remain anonymous. There is a reward being offered for information leading to the arrest of the individual or individuals responsible for this crime. Like I said earlier, someone knows something, or someone saw something. The store where the girls were last seen is in a very busy area. I think it is time the truth came out.”
Anyone with any information on this case should call the Ozark Police Department, at (334) 774-2644. Sources: Michele W. Forehand, The Dothan Eagle, August 19, 2017.

So nothing ever came of the female police officer's story that the two girls had an incriminating tape about police? (BTW, the link posted by Shay back in 2015 no longer works, which is why people should copy and paste the actual articles instead of posting links.)

So nothing ever came of the female police officer's story that the two girls had an incriminating tape about police? (BTW, the link posted by Shay back in 2015 no longer works, which is why people should copy and paste the actual articles instead of posting links.)
This is the information that was posted on the Henry County blog:
Police Officer Breaks 'Blue Wall of Silence' and Confesses an Ozark Officer Killed Beasley and Hawlett
In a startling development, after recent attempts by JB Beasley’s sister to seek leads through social media, a veteran Ozark police officer contacted her and said, “she could no longer live with what she knew.” Rena Crumb, a sworn Ozark police officer, told members of the victim’s family that a former Ozark police officer, who currently is employed with a Henry County law enforcement agency, killed Beasley.
The officer accused,* of whom we are withholding the identity, per request of a state investigator, according to the Ozark officer was involved in an altercation with Beasley that night (July 31, 1999) and accidentally fired his weapon while attempting to hit her with it. At one point it is reported both girls escaped, but were recaptured. The officer reportedly was sent to stop and search JB and Tracie to locate a series of recorded conversations on cassette tapes that were highly incriminating of top Ozark police officers and others. Crumb stated in an email the following:
" – NAME REDACTED – is the one who did it, and (Chief) Tony Spivey knew about it. I have known both of them since they joined the Police Department. Rex Tipton, Butch Whittington, and Eddie Henderson are in on the cover-up.
"I am ashamed to say I have known for a long time, I worked with all of them, blue walls of silence, cant believe it stayed silent this long, everyone talks when they drink.
"The cassette tapes in question, we are told by a former law enforcement officer who worked the case for years, are believed to be of a prominent businessman and a judicial official (now federal judge) that were involved in discussions of cocaine distribution and profits, and discuss paying out money to a man who is now Alabama’s leading politicians. "Chief Tony Spivey is on the tapes, he’s the damn fool who let the girls be where they were in the first place."
The two girls intended to use these tapes in a court case that was scheduled for the coming Monday, August 2, 1999, less than 48 hours after they were murdered. The tapes were to be entered as evidence.
Officer Crum has said the same story to four individuals and was interviewed by Houston County deputy Donovan Arias, before she was interviewed by Ozark police chief, Marlos Walker. We have listened to that audio file.
An Ozark officer, speaking in strict confidence, told us, “Marlos at first refused to interview her, then tried to delay it until he spoke his real boss, and now has buried the report. If it had not been for Deputy Arias he would have covered it up. Arias made sure the chief interviewed her and witnessed it. At this point I figure they will kill her.”
A retired federal law enforcement officer also shared this was expected that, “whenever someone got close to this case they were shut down, retired ,or transferred out of the area. We knew it was covered up, but we just didn’t know why.”
When we spoke to a government official /family friend in Montgomery – after we interviewed the Attorney General’s Investigator Shawn Smith – he admitted this case would not be solved. If so, it has to come from people outside the State of Alabama at the federal. This is the same conclusion Governor Siegleman concluded, he told us. We were told that, “too many very important people have everything to lose at this point. They will let sleeping dogs lie.”
A.G. Investigator Shawn Smith denied the allegation, that at multiple times, retired, and former law enforcement officers, had approached the attorney general to share the information necessary to solve the case. However, documents shared in confidence with us by a retired federal officer proved otherwise. Smith told us, “That’s strange I have no record of that in the files.”

*On January 29, 2016, Keith Cauthen (the accused officer), Rex Tipton, Tony Spivey, Eddy Henderson and Gary Whittington sued Jon B. Carroll, Rena Crumb, Dean Matthews et al. in the Circuit Court of Dale County, Alabama.

I wonder where they got the tapes and I would love to know who the federal judge and "a man who is now Alabama’s leading politicians" are.

I wonder where they got the tapes and I would love to know who the federal judge and "a man who is now Alabama’s leading politicians" are. I asked this same question in this thread on page 2 of the comments. I think that the general consensus is that Rena Crumb was lying. If what she said is true, then all of those people who are suing her are taking a big chance.

The federal judge the article referred to is Mark Fuller, former Coffee County District Attorney.

The federal judge the article referred to is Mark Fuller, former Coffee County District Attorney. Do you have any ideas about who killed them?
