Dahmer's Glasses, Urn, Other Items for Sale
Jeffrey Dahmer, the notorious “Milwaukee Cannibal,” who had a penchant for bringing home, killing and then eating parts of his gay lovers, was beaten to death in prison on November 28, 1994. Now, the prison-issue Titmus eyeglasses he wore at the time can be yours for an opening bid of $150,000. Taylor James, a crime aficionado who owns Cult Collectibles, says, “These [the glasses] were in his cell when he was killed in prison.” (In 2018, Zak Bagans paid only $50,000 for Ted Bundy’s eyeglasses.)
But the glasses aren’t even the highest-priced Dahmer item up for sale: a shiny urn (below) that comes with a plastic bag that presumably once contained the serial killer’s ashes, has a starting bid of $250,000. Following cremation, Dahmer’s ashes were divided between his parents. (The serial killer has no grave site, but there is a Jeffrey Dahmer Tour for those interested in visiting the locations he frequented.)
Other, more affordable, items include, but are not limited to, a Bible with a red cover with a price tag of $10,000, a random letter he wrote from prison for $100, a tax return for $500, and a baby picture selling for $640.
Many consider the collection of what has come to be known as “murderabilia” strange and James, who lives in Vancouver, British Columbia, doesn’t disagree. “I’ve always been kind of weird and unusual,” he readily admits, “but I wouldn’t say I’m a desensitized person. It’s a controversial thing, right? But a lot of this stuff will get destroyed or thrown away, and we’re able to learn from it.”
James came into possession of Dahmer’s items last year through a housekeeper who once worked for Lionel Dahmer, Jeffrey’s father. Some of the items up for sale are very personal, such as the confession letter the killer wrote to his father. “There’s a little note asking for forgiveness from God for what he’d done,” James adds. “Having that was very impactful to see ... a private [space] that he had for himself, where he was expressing his feelings on the situation.”
In 1992, Dahmer, who murdered 17 young men, received 15 life sentences plus 70 years, however, he had spent less than two years at Columbia Correctional Institution in Portage, Wisconsin, before he was attacked and killed by a fellow inmate.
The Dahmer items as well as other possessions associated with infamous individuals are available from Cult Collectibles.
