Badly Decomposed Body Found in ‘Haunted House’ FreezerOn Sunday, January 3, a group of eight adults riding four-wheelers decided to explore an abandoned farmhouse near Norway, South Carolina (approximately 40 miles south of Columbia), that was rumored to be haunted. After they looked around the place, a man opened an old freezer on the back porch and discovered what appeared to be a human body clad in blue jeans and socks. “As soon as the seal broke loose, it was just a horrifying smell,” Corey Antley later recalled. “It’s something you won’t forget, really.”
The Orangeburg County sheriff was notified and crime scene technicians had to practically pour the rotting corpse into a body bag for transportation to the office of the medial examiner.
“It was very scary. You couldn’t tell it was a person, because ... I think it had been in there for months,” Madison Childers, told a reporter. “There were maggots everywhere.”
The house was declared a crime scene and the owner of the property, who was said to be cooperating in the investigation, was advised. However, no one was assigned to watch the place and two days later, on Tuesday morning, someone saw smoke coming from the abandoned structure. Firefighters responded, but the building burned to the ground. Authorities are calling the fire “suspicious.”
The death and fire – which are likely connected – are under investigation. “This process will take some time as we methodically investigate this case to ensure proper closure and positive results,” County Coroner Sean D. Fogle said in a prepared statement.
Following the fire, Ronald Phillips, former owner of the property who lived in the house for 10 years, admitted there was something strange about the place. The new owners didn’t live in the home and left it vacant. “People started busting the windows out and going in because it’s always been known that there’s a few voices in that house,” he explained. “These kids went in there Sunday night when it was dark and then came back out and opened the freezer and there was a body.
“Everybody knows me as a person, and I’m not a murderer,” Phillips added. “It [the house] was leveled to the ground, so evidentially someone’s trying to cover up something. I don’t know, I don’t have the answer.”Sources: Drew Aunkst, WIS, January 5, 2021; WSOC, January 5, 2021; and WLTX, January 5, 2021.

How could there be maggots if the body was shut inside a freezer? There's no telling how long the person had been dead before he (or she) was shut inside the freezer. Still, that was an odd place to hide a body since the killer would have known that sooner or later someone was going to open it.

The body couldn't have been in there every long though it was still decomposing, right?

The body couldn't have been in there every long though it was still decomposing, right? The freezer wasn't running, there was no electrical power in the house.

So I'm guessing that if it had been in there a very long time, then decomposition would have been much further along, wouldn't it? I guess it also would depend on how air tight it was.

Corpse Has Distinctive Tattoo on Right Shoulder The Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office has released a photo of a tattoo on the right shoulder of a corpse found Sunday, January 3, in an abandoned house rumored to be haunted. Although advanced decomposition made it difficult to tell very much about the tattoo, it appears to be a rising sun above a man’s face.
Sheriff Leroy Ravenell released a statement indicating the medical examiner had determined the body was that of a white male wearing size 34 PacSun blue denim stacked skinny jeans, a short-sleeved T-shirt and a brown Gucci belt.
Shortly after the body was discovered, the house was burned down, an indication someone in the area knows something about the crime.
Anyone recognizing the tattoo or clothing or having other information concerning the case is asked to contact the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office at (803) 534-3550, or Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.Sources: Tyria Goines, WRDW/WAGT, January 13, 2021; and WLTX, January 13, 2021.

A person would have to be a real wacko to have something that ugly tattooed on his arm. Of course, anyone with a tattoo is weird, particularly women.

A person would have to be a real wacko to have something that ugly tattooed on his arm. Of course, anyone with a tattoo is weird, particularly women. The face of that man looks familiar. A few years ago, there was an article about people getting tattoos of serial killers. Maybe it's the face of some famous killer. whatliesbeyond.boards.net/thread/5671/bundy-serial-killer-tattoos-latest
