Linked is an article by Nick Redfern, who claims to be a full-time writer (LOL!), lecturer and journalist. (Isn't a writer and journalist the same thing?) He writes about garbage like Black-eyed Children and now he's claiming that in addition to "Men in Black," there are "Women in Black" (WIBs). It's hard to believe there are people "out there" -- and I mean WAY "out there," who actually believe this poppycock. mysteriousuniverse.org/2020/04/are-camouflaged-aliens-walking-among-us/

People who reported seeing UFOs were sometimes visited by government agents and then some fringe writers started calling them Men in Black. Redfern isn't a good writer and a lot of his stuff is confusing.

"While there is no evidence that the Black Eyed Children are connected to the UFO subject, it is a fact that there are some similarities."
Um...how about there is no evidence of any of this at all!

(Isn't a writer and journalist the same thing?) A journalist is employed and published (or publishable) in the profession. Writers can only wish to be either.

A journalist is employed and published (or publishable) in the profession. Writers can only wish to be either. Then why doesn't the nutjob just say he's a journalist? Basically, a journalist is someone who writes for newspapers, magazines, television broadcasts, websites, or whatever, but "journalist" and "writer" are interchangeable. Stephen King calls himself a "writer" and he's certainly been published.
Have you ever read any of the Mysterious Universe garbage, or that equally abominable site, Anomalien? I could write better when I was in freaking junior high. The writing is atrocious, the claims are preposterous and they're full of the sort of ads one finds in the back of cheap tabloid magazines.

Here's another Nick Redfern article (and I use the term loosely) about Black-eyed Children, what he calls BECs, and which he says are "the most well-known hooded things of the last two decades." The Black-eyed Children garbage was started in 1996 when some guy (probably stoned out of his gourd) in Abilene, TX claimed he was approached by two black-eyed kids in a parking lot. The lunatic fringe jumped on the bandwagon and soon there were black-eyed children reports everywhere. www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=Mysterious+Universe+hooded+beingsWhen I think of a hooded figure, the last thing that comes to mind is a freaking black-eyed kid. I think of ghostly monks, the Grim Reaper and Satanists performing a human sacrifice under the full moon.

I just saw a question on Reddit asking people what they think of Nick Redfern and I remembered this post. Why do you suppose so many authors that write about UFOs, ghosts and other things are such terrible writers?

Why do you suppose so many authors that write about UFOs, ghosts and other things are such terrible writers? The main reason they can't write is because most members of the lunatic fringe do not have any education beyond high school and as we all know, kids today no longer learn the basics of writing because the standards have been lowered to accommodate those whose IQ levels are extremely low.
One "paranormal" writer that I find particularly irritating is Roger Marsh, who writes (and I use the term loosely) for MUFON. I've seen in comments on his articles where people suggest he buy and study a style guide or take courses in English grammar and composition, but he never improves.

I also find Roger Marsh's writing irritating and the same is true of the so-called "writers" on such sites as Mysterious Universe, Singular Fortean and Phantoms and Monsters. The only what I would call "good" UFO writer is Billy Booth. In the old group, there was a column that he wrote every month about UFO sightings. If he's still writing it, I wish someone would start posting it in this group.

I liked the Billy Booth reports. If he still does them, I'd like to see them posted again. He still does reports, but now it's primarily videos rather than text, which means it would require a lot of editing for a monthly report. However, I'll take a look and if it isn't too difficult, I may start posting a report at the beginning of each month summarizing sightings during the previous month.

I'm not a writer, but I read a lot and you're right, Redfern's writing is pretty awful. Like everyone else, when I think of a hooded paranormal entity, what Redfern calls BEC's don't come to mind at all. I never even knew they wore hoods! I also think of monks, the Grim Reaper, witches or Satanists, and maybe the members of some weird club like the Skull & Bones.

Unfortunately, those who believe the trash Redfern and his ilk fabricate are now convinced there are hooded BECs all over the place.
