Dead Boxer Posed in Ring in Bizarre Funeral Scene SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – Even in death, Christopher Rivera Amaro almost looked ready to box, leaning against the corner of a simulated ring.
In the photo above, Lidianette Carmona (right) the wife of the late boxer (left) who was shot to death on Sunday, January 26, hugs the boxer's mother Celines Amaro, as they stand next to his body propped up in a fake boxing ring during his wake at the community recreation center in the public housing project where he lived.
Elsie Rodriguez, vice president of the Marin funeral home, explained that Rivera had asked his family that if he died, he wanted his fun.
Mourners who attended his wake found him posed, a yellow hood on his head, sunglasses over his eyes and blue boxing gloves on his hands.
Rodriguez said Rivera's family wanted to stress his boxing and the funeral home suggested posing him in a ring.
The funeral home has staged similar wakes for others. One featured a deceased man riding his motorcycle.
The 23-year-old Rivera had a 5-15 record in the 130-pound weight class.Source: Associated Press, January 31, 2014.
