Finished in 1928, Greystone Mansion, complete with a wrought-iron gate at its entrance, was a gift from well-heeled oil tycoon Edward Doheny to his son, Edward, Jr. ("Ned").  On February 16, 1929, Ned died in what was presumed to be a murder-suicide with his secretary/chauffeur, Hugh Plunkett  The official version is that Plunkett was either mentally unstable or angry at not receiving a raise. However, some have questions if perhaps Ned pulled the trigger, because he was not buried in a Catholic cemetery per family custom, perhaps indicating that Ned had committed suicide. Other have pointed both men being tied up in the Teapot Dome scandal, which brought down many officials in the Harding administration (a scandal which continued to play out well after Harding's death in 1923).

Ned's wife remained in the house until 1955, at which point it was sold and redeveloped before being sold again to Chicago industrialist Henry Crown.  The property is currently a city park. 

The mansion is allegedly haunted by Ned's wife, Lucy.
