We're getting ready to leave New York for Maine. Parts of "Master of Dark Shadows" were very good and the reception at the Empire Hotel was OK.
The food at Bill's Townhouse, the haunted restaurant, where we ate Friday night, was excellent. We all had the Beef Wellington.
The temperature is in the high 60s and it looks overcast. We plan to be in Portsmouth, NH by around 4 p.m. Then we'll take US 1 north to Portland and should be there by around 6 p.m. Tomorrow, we'll check in at our hotel in Kennebunkport.

Greetings from Maine:
It was mostly overcast during our drive from NYC to Maine and Monday was cool, cloudy and rainy. On Sunday night, we had dinner at DiMillo's on the Water in Portland, like we always do. It has the best stuffed lobster in Maine.
We got to our hotel in Kennebunkport Monday afternoon around 3:30. Kennebunkport is south of Portland, so we drove through it on the way up. The hotel is right on the waterfront and the views are breathtaking. Walker’s Point, where President George H.W. Bush vacationed, is just a few yards away. The common rooms are nice and our rooms are comfortable, but the decor in the rooms isn't the best. When we got here, everyone was given a room in the main building, except me, and my room was in the one-story annex. But Lee and Julia didn’t want me to be in a building alone, so Julia took the annex room. It’s a very nice room decorated in aqua and orange and has a gas fireplace and an ocean-view. Lee’s room is red, white and blue and it also has an ocean-view. Catherine and Kate have a room with two beds that have headboards painted white. The room is an ugly beige and the curtains, bed covers and bed skirts are white – not very appealing. My room is decorated in blue and has a big 4-poster bed that is much too tall for the room because the posts are only a couple of inches from the ceiling.
When we checked in, we found out that the hotel restaurant wouldn’t be open until Wednesday. We found a place on up the road on the waterfront for dinner that sort of reminded us of the Blue Whale. We had planned on having something other than seafood for dinner, but because it specializes in seafood, we had fried calimari and sauteed muscles for starters and baked stuffed lobster. The lobster was good, but not as good as DiMillo's. We got to the restaurant early and it was close to sundown on the way back. Catherine was driving and just around a curve, there were about a half-a-dozen stupid dogs in the middle of the road, all circling around with their noses up each other’s butts, and we hit them. They were all ugly little fairy dogs with long hair. One was white, maybe a Maltese, another was dark-colored. The biggest one was sort of a reddish brown and the others looked like those ugly long-haired Chihuahuas. I think we probably killed them all except the one that was hit by the oncoming car, because there were dogs literally flying all over the place. It happened right in front of a hotel that allows dogs. We heard sudden screams coming from the beach area across the road and saw these two people running toward the road, so the mutts were probably their dogs and they were letting the revolting little demons run around off leash. We all hate dogs, so no one really cared that we hit them. We didn't stop and neither did the car going in the other direction that hit one of them.
Yesterday afternoon, which was supposed to be cloudy, but turned out to be sunny, we went to Hope Cemetery & Woods, which is in the middle of Kennebunkport. Then we drove down the coast to Wells, Maine, where we had reservations at a restaurant called Joshua’s, which is in an old house built in 1774. We all had crab cakes for starters and rack of lamb stuffed with mushrooms.
We just got back from breakfast and today looks like it’s going to be sunny again, not the Dark Shadows weather we were hoping for, but tomorrow and Friday, it's supposed to rain. We're going to a spa this afternoon for facials, mani/pedicures, etc. Tonight we're having dinner here at the hotel. Tomorrow, we're going to walk up the road to visit St. Ann's Episcopal Church and look at some of the old summer houses on the nearby streets. As you can see, the church is built of unfinished stones and the gothic interior is beautiful:

Fairy dogs are little poodles, Maltese, Pomeranians, hairy Chihuahuas, etc. They're called fairy dogs because a lot of queer men own them.

So what did y'all do on Thursday, Friday and Saturday? We spent Wednesday (April 17) afternoon at the spa and that night, we ate at The Ocean Restaurant at the inn where we're staying. We had what was called a Colorado Grilled Striploin. It was good, but it was still the Spring Menu. The Summer Menu doesn't start until later.
Thursday it rained and was cloudy and we walked along the waterfront, which has a sidewalk, then up to St. Ann's Church. We then sat around the hotel, playing cards and talking to other guests. We had planned to have dinner at a restaurant up Ocean Avenue on the wharf and we decided to walk, though it was around a mile. We all wore raincoats and carried umbrellas because it had been raining off and on. We had drinks in the bar, then dinner looking out over the water. We had steamed mussels and fried calamari for appetizers, followed by stuffed haddock. We had to walk past where we ran over the dogs and would you believe, someone had actually put a wreath out where they were all killed. We learned that the beach across from the hotel that allows dogs belongs to the hotel and apparently, the dog owners took their ugly little demons to the beach and let them run off-leash and they went underneath the gate and out into the road. I'll bet if those people get anymore dogs, they'll keep them on a leash. I don't know why some people say dogs are smart, if they were smart, they wouldn't run out into the street in front of cars and get mashed.
On Friday, which was also cloudy and rainy, we drove down the coast to York and walked around the old York Cemetery, where the witch is buried, where we'd been before. There's a museum in York, but it doesn't open until May. We came back and drove around Kennebunkport and looked at old houses, then went to dinner at a place called The White Barn Restaurant, where we had reservations. We had oysters for starters, followed by lobster bisque, then what was called Kennebunkport Lobster, and champagne.
It was still overcast on Saturday, when we checked out and went back to Portland. That afternoon, we went to the Cryptozoology Museum, which is in Portland and it's very interesting. That night, we went to DiMillo's again and had baked stuffed lobster. The next morning, we flew home.

It's been 2 years since our last Dark Shadows trip. There wasn't anything last year or this year because of the China virus and all the DS sites seem to have gone completely dead.
