Master of Dark Shadows: The Gothic World of Dan Curtis - Saturday, April 13, 2019 The world premier of Master of Dark Shadows is scheduled for 2 p.m., Saturday, April 13, at
The Paley Center for Media 25 W. 52nd Street New York, New York
The new documentary, Master of Dark Shadows, reveals the impact and appeal of Dark Shadows, while also exploring the creative mind of producer/director Dan Curtis. Known as the “King of TV Horror,” the Emmy-winning filmmaker was also responsible for other iconic genre favorites including The Night Stalker, Triology of Terror and Burnt Offerings.
Immediately after the screening, a question-and-answer session and discussion will be held on stage with original Dark Shadows stars and other personnel, followed by an autograph session.
Festivities will continue a few blocks away at the historic Empire Hotel where Dark Shadows held rehearsals during its first months on the air in 1966. Beginning at 5:30 p.m., a buffet dinner reception with the stars will include a special Dark Shadows Gift Bag containing an array of merchandise and collectibles including a never-before-available color 8x10 photograph signed by original cast members available to attendees only. The event will end at 8 p.m., though fans are welcome to remain at the hotel bar for drinks and mingling.
Guests will include Lara Parker (Angelique), Kathryn Leigh Scott (Maggie Evans, Josette DuPres), Sharon Smythe (Sarah Collins), Marie Wallace (Eve, Danielle Rogét, Jenny Collins, Megan Todd) and Donna Wandery (Roxanne Drew). Other surprise guests will be announced later.
The Empire Hotel 44 W. 63rd Street New York, New York
In 1966 (53 years ago), Dark Shadows debuted on ABC as a daily Gothic suspense series. Gradually, ghosts were introduced, then a phoenix, but it wasn’t until vampire Barnabas Collins was released from his coffin that the soap opera became a sensation. Soon, kids were hurrying home after school, college students were crowding into common rooms and housewives were rescheduling their activities to see what the latest ghost, vampire, witch, werewolf or other creature of the supernatural would do next. First Lady Pat Nixon and daughter Tricia were fans, as was Jackie Onassis. On Halloween 1969, Tricia Nixon invited Barnabas (Jonathan Frid) to the White House. Though the series ended in April 1971, by that time, Dark Shadows had attained cult classic status and remakes, resurrections and reunions have continued unabated to this day.
Of interest, it was on April 18, 1967, that Barnabas Collins knocked on the door of Collinwood, but the show was recorded the previous week, on April 14. Exactly 45 years later, Jonathan Frid died on April 14, 2012. The episode in which the hand of Barnabas reaches from the coffin pried open by Willie Loomis was recorded April 13, 1967, a fitting anniversary for the premier of Master of Dark Shadows.

I guess this means you necrophiles will be going on your Dark Shadows trip early this year. If you go to Maine, you're going to freeze your asses off.

I guess this means you necrophiles will be going on your Dark Shadows trip early this year. If you go to Maine, you're going to freeze your asses off. Julia lives in Maine and I spent four years at Naval Air Station, Brunswick, Maine, when I was in the Navy. I know what it’s like in April. Catherine and Maddie live in Alabama, Kate lives in Tennessee, and it gets cold in both locations.

Our favorite resort doesn't open until May, so we have reservations at the Sebasco Inn, where we stayed in 2012.

We're flying to New York on Friday, April 12, and we'll be staying at the Empire Hotel, where the dinner will be held. The hotel is really too modern for out taste, but we'll be in New York only two nights. On Friday night, we're having dinner at a restaurant called Bill's Townhouse on East 54th Street. The restaurant is in an old 19th century townhouse and it's haunted by a little girl named Beatrice.
The first two photos are of the Empire Hotel and the 3rd is Bill's Townhouse:

The hotel is very modern, but the restaurant looks interesting and I'll bet they have a great menu. Please post some photos of the place you're staying in Maine if you can find any.

We've just learned that the restaurant at the Sebasco Resort doesn't open until May 19th, so we've had a change of plans. We were able to get reservations at The Cape Arundel Resort in Kennebunkport, where the restaurant is already open. It's more historic and it's right on the ocean. The first 1st photo is the inn, the 2nd is the lobby, which is really too light and cheery for our taste, and the 3rd is the view from the restaurant. Lee and Julia are staying in the main inn in the picture and Catherine, Kate and I will be staying in the annex called The Club House. As soon as I find some photos of it, I'll post them.

It sounds like you're having misgivings. I don't think the people who own the place are all that efficient. I've been reading online where people have problems with their reservations. They get there and find they don't have the rooms they reserved, or don't have rooms at all. Because it's so early in the season, I'm hoping that won't happen to us, but you never know.
