Will Eclipse Bring out Lizard Man and Other Cryptids?
CHARLOTTE, S.C. – South Carolinians are being asked to immediately report any monsters seen during the total solar eclipse on Tuesday, Aug. 21, particularly the fabled Lizard Man.
The state’s Emergency Management Division made this request via a tweet this week, adding that it was in response to media reports that paranormal activity might spike during the eclipse. “Regarding possible paranormal activity potentially occurring during the #SolarEclipse2017,” said the tweet. “As always, if you see something, say something.” The tongue-in-cheek message included a map of sightings of South Carolina’s mythical Lizard Man creature, which Wikipedia describes as a “ reptilian humanoid cryptid” said to inhabit areas of swamp around Sumter and Lee counties. And yes, it reportedly also lives in the sewers.
“This historic map is in response to recent media reports about possible paranormal activity associated with the upcoming total eclipse,” explains the SC Emergency Management Division. “SCEMD does not know if the Lizardmen become more active during a solar eclipse, but we advise residents of Lee and Sumter counties to remain ever vigilant.”
The message comes just a week after a Bigfoot was sighted in McDowell County and a chupacabra devil dog on a golf course in Santee.
