Body of 'Child in Suitcase' to be ExhumedAuthorities are taking a new look at the unsolved death of an unidentified preschool girl whose body was found in 1968 in a suitcase in a fishing lake near West Alton, Missouri. Val Joyner, spokesperson for the St. Charles County Police Department, said the body is expected to be exhumed in the next few weeks from a cemetery in St. Charles. No further details were released.
News media attention was drawn to the case Tuesday by the Virginia-based National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which posted a depiction of what the girl would have looked like when she was alive. The depiction was on a Facebook page called Help ID Me maintained by the center. The center said the girl was white, had long blonde hair and was believed to be 2- to 3-years-old.
Anyone with information that could help to identify her is asked to call the center at 800-843-5687 (800-THE-LOST).
The Post-Dispatch reported in 1968 that the body was discovered by a fisherman from St. Louis. The suitcase was in approximately three feet of water and about 12 feet from shore. The lake is near US Highway 67 near the Clark Bridge over the Mississippi River.Source: Mark Schlinkmann, The St. Louis Post-Dispatch, September 15, 2015.

I don't understand how a child can remain unidentified for so many years. You'd think some family members would have come forward stating that a child in their family disappeared and bringing pictures to see if she may have been the girl found in the suitcase. I find it strange that no one has tried looking for her and there are no possible leads as to who she may be.
