There's something wrong with this dude. He admitted to killing the girl in Peru because she "intruded" in his life and that's just not normal. A normal guy would have just told her to leave his room, but he killed her. A man like that would think nothing of killing and disposing of some girl in Thailand. There's no telling how many women he's killed. There's also something wrong with that woman who married him in prison and had his baby, but that's true of all prison groupies.

Attorney Claims van der Sloot Is an ‘Ill Person’
Maximo Altez, Joran van der Sloot’s attorney, is claiming his client was “tricked” by members of Natalee Holloway’s family who offered him money, adding that his client suffers from a number of problems that adversely affect his judgment. “Joran is an ill person,” Altez told a reporter. “He is a person with psychological problems. He is a compulsory gambler . . . [like] a drug addict.”
According to the lawyer, van der Sloot never sought out members of the Holloway family. He was “entrapped,” the lawyer insisted, saying that his client was looking forward to fighting the charges in the United States. “The details are all that’s left,” he added.
Federal prosecutors, however, allege van der Sloot purposefully misled Beth Holloway, Natalee’s mother, concerning the whereabouts of her daughter’s remains, leading the family to a place where he knew the body was not located.
Addressing his client’s impending divorce, Altez told reporters van der Sloot, 35, asked his wife, Leidy Figueroa, for a divorce “about a year ago,” and is now in a relationship with Eva Pacohuanaco, a “prettier and younger” woman. Pocohuanaco was accused of smuggling the drugs into the prison that van der Sloot was caught selling.
Van der Sloot and Figueroa, 33, married at Peru’s Piedras Gordas prison in July 2014, four years after he was sentenced to 28 years for the 2010 murder of Stephany Flores. Altex claimed Figueroa was merely the “most loyal” of several women who courted van der Sloot in prison. “Joran had a bunch of girlfriends,” he said, noting his client “still writes to girls and they send him pictures.”

Well, Boo-Hoo! He murdered at least two women in cold blood and probably killed a third in Thailand. He deserves to be in the worst prison in the world.

Van der Sloot Attacked and Beaten by Fellow Inmates Maximo Altez, Joran van der Sloot’s attorney, told authorities and reporters his client was badly beaten over the weekend in the Peruvian prison where he is held and is need of protection. In a complaint, the lawyer alleged that because of van der Sloot’s public profile, he is a target inside the prison and it is “necessary to ensure that he is not a victim of violence, assaults or any form of abuse by other inmates.”
Van der Sloot has been in the news lately because he is awaiting extradition to the United States on charges of extortion and wire fraud. His lawyer also has been bragging about the monetary “gifts” – amounting to approximately $400 per month – women worldwide pay into his client’s commissary account, which likely causes resentment in some of his inmates.
Failing to acknowledge partial responsibility for his client’s predicament, Altez blames gang activity inside the prison.“It is essential to remember that all people, regardless of their background or crimes committed, they have the right to be treated with dignity and respect,” the complaint reads. “The rehabilitation and reintegration into society are important objectives of the prison system, and providing a safe and secure environment is critical to achieving these ends.”
According to the lawyer, because of van der Sloot’s injuries, he is now in the infirmary, and Altez is requesting his client be transferred to another facility for his own safety.Sources: Bradford Betz and Armando Regil Velasco, Fox News, May 29, 2023, and Al.com, May 29, 2023.

Does anyone care? More than likely, after the other men learned that van der Sloot was raking in $400 a month from his admirers, they started demanding he buy commissary items for them, and when he refused, they beat the crap out of him. The lawyer has no one but himself to blame because if he'd kept his mouth shut, the others wouldn't have known about his client's "gifts."

Van der Sloot Arrives in US, Pleads Not GuiltyOn the afternoon of Thursday (June 8), Joran van der Sloot was escorted from a plane at Birmingham International Airport to face charges of extortion and fraud. At 6'4", the 35-year-old Dutchman towered above the law enforcement officers accompanying him. He was booked into the Hoover City Jail and on Friday morning, appeared in federal court (above), where he pled not guilty.
The charges against Van der Sloot arise from his attempt to extort $250,000 from Mrs. Beth Holloway, the mother of Natalee Holloway, five years after her daughter disappeared. In March 2010, van der Sloot contacted John Q. Kelly, Mrs. Holloway’s lawyer, and agreed to reveal the location of Natalee’s remains. She immediately wired $15,000 from her Regions Bank account in Birmingham to van der Sloot’s SNS account. Kelly then traveled to Aruba, where van der Sloot told him his father, Paulus van der Sloot, a Dutch attorney and judge-in-training who died of a heart attack in February 2010, had buried the young woman in the gravel beneath the foundations of the single-story home.
Van der Sloot admitted to Kelly that he had been with Natalee on the night of May 29/30, 2005, and during an argument in which she attempted to prevent his leaving her, he had shoved her to the ground. When she fell, he claimed, her head hit a rock and she died as a result of the impact.
The deal, however, quickly unraveled when, during his investigation, Kelly spoke with the contractor who built the house in question and discovered the property wasn’t under construction on May 30, 2005. Satellite imagery from May 29 through June 5, 2005, verified the information provided by the contractor was correct.
Although van der Sloot waited until his father died to make his absurd attempt to extort money from the Holloway family, Peter R. De Vries, a Dutch crime reporter who interviewed Paulus van der Sloot concerning his son’s possible involvement in the case, suspected the older man helped cover up parts of what happened. “My intuition as a researcher told me that Mr. van der Sloot knew more about it, but wanted to protect his son, which is natural,” he said. “His attitude struck me as tense. For instance, when I referred to Natalee’s being dead, his response was, ‘Who says she’s dead? There is no evidence.’” Sources: Taylor Penley, Fox News, June 11, 2023, and Taylor Lang, WVTM, June 8, 2023; Olivia Land, The New York Post, May 26, 2023; UPI, February 11, 2010.

Van der Sloot May Reveal Details Concerning Murder of Natalee Holloway
Joran van der Sloot, who is now in Alabama facing extortion charges, is expected to make a deal and reveal what happened to Natalee Holloway, who went missing in May 2005 while on a senior trip to Aruba.
According to John Q. Kelly, the lawyer representing Beth Holloway, Natalee’s mother, van der Sloot’s plea deal is predicated on his revealing the details of how the young woman died as well as information concerning the location of her body.
Once van der Sloot’s federal case in Alabama has been concluded, he will be returned to Peru to finish his sentence there. He was originally sentenced to 28 years behind bars for the murder of Stephany Flores, however, additional time was added because of his involvement in a drug-smuggling operation inside the facility where he was incarcerated. If he lives to complete his South American sentence, he will be transferred to a federal prison in the United States.

Van der Sloot’s Attack on Natalee Holloway More Vicious than Imagined
Joran van der Sloot has finally admitted murdering Natalee Holloway, and his attack on the 18-year-old was even more vicious than anyone imagined. The Dutch killer’s responses to his attorney’s questions sent a chill through the entire courtroom.
When asked by his attorney if his two friends, Deepak and Satish Kalpose, were involved in what transpired that night, van der Sloot replied:
“No, uh Deepak and Satish leave. Uh, they uh leave uhm, they go back to their home, I assume they go back to their home. Uhm, they get in their car and they leave. Uh, I’m actually with uh, I’m actually with uh, with Natalee, walking along the beach. Uh, I find a space before we get to the, before we get to the Marriott Hotel, where I lay her down, we lay down together in the sand and uh, we start kissing each other. I start, I get her to kiss me again and we start kissing each other. And uh, I start feeling her up again and she tells me no. She tells me she doesn’t want me to, to feel her up. Uh, I insist. I keep feeling her up either way. Uhm, and uh, she knees me, uh, I get up, uh, on the beach and I kick her ex, extremely hard in, in the face. Uhm, yeah, she’s laying down, uh, unconscious, possibly even uh, even dead, but definitely unconscious. And uhm, I see uh, right next to her there’s a, there’s a huge uh, cinderblock laying on the beach.”
Butler then asks, “When you say cinderblock, uhm, I’m looking at the walls of this uhm place, is it like those?”
“Exact same cinderblocks,” van der Sloot confirmed. “I see a, a huge cinderblock laying on the, on the beach. Uh, I take this and uh, yeah, I, I, I smash her head in with it completely. Uh, yeah, her face basically, you know, uh collapses in. Even though it’s dark, I can see her face is collapsed in. Uhm, afterwards I don’t exactly know, uh, what uh, you know, I’m, I’m scared. I don’t know what to do. Uh, and I uh, I decide to, to take her and uh, uh, put her into the ocean. So I grab her and I, I half, uh, half pull and half walk with her into the ocean. Uhm, I uh, I push her off. Uh, I walk up, uh, up to about my knees into the ocean and I push her off into, into, the into the sea. Uhm, and uhm, yeah, after that, I, I get out. I, I walk home.”
He also apologized to the Holloway family and agreed to assist law enforcement and her relatives concerning Natalee’s disappearance and submit to a polygraph examination.
The 6'5" killer then faced Judge Anna Manasco, who minced no words in her condemnation of the heartless defendant who stood before her. “You have brutally murdered, in separate incidents, years apart, two young women who refused your sexual advances,” she declared. The extortion and fraud charges, she added, were “heinous” because he knew the information he was peddling was nothing more than a lie for profit. Nonetheless, she acknowledged that part of the deal was that his confession could not be held against him for other purposes.
She then sentenced van der Sloot to 20 years in prison on the fraud and extortion charges, with credit for time already served in U.S. custody following his arrival in Alabama four months ago. His sentence will run concurrently with those in Peru, where he is expected to be released June 9, 2043. Should he be released prior to 2043, he will be transported to the United States to serve the remainder of the 20-year sentence in a federal American prison.
He also is ordered to immediately pay $25,100 in restitution and an additional $200 special assessment charge. Additionally, he is barred from entering the United States without permission from Homeland Security.
Van der Sloot waived his right to appeal either his conviction or sentence.

This is worse than I imagined. I thought it would be something like strangulation during an attempted rape. This SOB is pure evil. There's something badly wrong with a man who kicks a woman in the face and bashes her head in with a cinderblock just because she says no.

I'm not sure I even believe this. First, why would a cinderblock be laying on the beach. Secondly, if he only walked into the water only knees deep and dropped her there, wouldn't her body have washed back up onto the shore?

I'm not sure I even believe this. First, why would a cinderblock be laying on the beach. Secondly, if he only walked into the water only knees deep and dropped her there, wouldn't her body have washed back up onto the shore? Someone probably got the cinderblock from a nearby construction site and left it on the beach. You can find all kinds of junk like that on beaches in the Caribbean. If the tide was going out, her body could have ended up miles from shore, where it would have been eaten by sharks and other sea creatures.

Van der Sloot May Still Be Charged with Natalee Holloway’s Murder
One of the requirements of Joran van der Sloot’s plea deal in the federal extortion and fraud case was that he submit to a polygraph examination, and now Aruban officials have requested copies of transcripts and all the documents related to the U.S. investigation.
“The Holloway case is still an open investigation in Aruba,” said Ann Angela, spokesperson for the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Aruba. “The police force, the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Aruba and other investigative entities will follow up on any serious leads that could solve the disappearance of Natalee Holloway. The search of what happened to her remains unabated. ... We’ve been working on this case for 18 years, so there’s been a lot of investigative work done over that period of time that was a baseline of our investigation.”
Although Aruba has a 12-year statute of limitation for charging an individual with murder, Ms. Angela added that whether prosecution is “statue-barred or not cannot be answered with a straightforward yes or no. It depends on various factors within the investigation. As it is an open investigation, the Public Prosecutor’s Office will only provide limited information to the media, also about the issue of the statute of limitation. First things first for us at this moment in time, is to obtain the documents requested to the U.S. Department of Justice.”
